Web Development Agency Manchester

Web Development

AsOne is a web development agency in Manchester, building digital products for organisations where the stakes are real — primarily in healthcare and manufacturing. We design, build, and maintain websites and web applications that perform correctly under real conditions, and we carry responsibility for those products well after go-live. Most agencies hand over a site and move on. We do not.

18 YEARS

Building digital products since 2008 and most of those clients are still with us

What we build

We work across the full spectrum of web development — from marketing sites and product platforms to web applications and internal tools. Every project starts with a clearly defined brief and ends with a product that has been tested, optimised, and handed over with the documentation and training that makes it useful beyond day one.Web development at AsOne is not a handoff exercise. Design, build, SEO, and performance are treated as a single workstream. The people who understand your business objectives are the same people making technical decisions during build.

Web and application design

Wireframes, user flows, and interface design grounded in how your audience actually behaves. We do not design in isolation — every design decision is evaluated against conversion, accessibility, and build feasibility.

UI/UX

User experience is not a phase — it runs through the project. We test with real users where budgets allow and rely on established UX principles and sector-specific behavioural research where they do not.

Frontend and backend development

Clean, maintainable code. We work with modern frameworks and build to documented standards so that future maintenance does not require archaeology. Stack choices are made on the basis of what the project needs, not what is convenient.

Accessibility and compliance

WCAG 2.2 AA as a baseline, not an afterthought. For healthcare clients this means understanding what compliance means in practice — accessible to screen readers, keyboard-navigable, tested against assistive technologies.

A STRONG FOUNDATION

Search performance starts in the build.

It does not end there.

Every AsOne web build is structurally sound for search from day one. Clean architecture, fast load times, semantic markup, and accessibility compliance are not optional extras — they are part of how we build. A site that leaves our hands is ready to perform. What the build gives you is the foundation. Turning that foundation into sustained organic visibility, content authority, and AI citation share requires ongoing strategy, content, and technical work. That is what the SEO and GEO service is for.

INCLUDED IN EVERY WEB BUILD

Core Web Vitals optimisation

Page speed, layout stability, and interactivity built to Google's thresholds.

Clean URL and site architecture

Logical hierarchy, crawlable by search engines from day one.

Semantic HTML and heading structure

Correct H1–H3 use, landmark elements, and machine-readable content order.

Mobile-first responsive build

Google's mobile index is the primary index. Non-negotiable.

HTTPS and redirects

Prevents duplicate content and index dilution from the start.

Image alt text and media optimisation

Accessibility-compliant descriptions that also feed image search.

Basic XML sitemap and robots.txt

Correct crawl directives submitted at launch.

Requires our SEO+GEO service

Structured data (schema.org)

FAQPage, Article, Organization, and sector-specific schema. The primary signal for AI answer attribution.

Keyword and topic architecture

Research-led content structure mapped to real search demand in your sector.

GEO optimisation for AI citations

Content formatting, entity coverage, and authority signals that make pages citable in AI-generated answers.

Technical SEO auditing and monitoring

Ongoing crawl analysis, index health, and performance tracking beyond launch.

Content strategy and production

Search-driven content that builds topical authority over time.

Link and authority building

Signals that tell search engines — and AI systems — that your domain is a credible source.

AI citation tracking

Monitoring whether your content is being cited in ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google AI Overviews.

Competitor and gap analysis

Identifying where you are losing ground in search and AI results, and closing it.

ACCESSIBILITY

Accessibility is a build standard, not a checklist

We build to WCAG 2.2 Level AA as a default. For clients in healthcare and regulated industries, accessibility is not optional — it is a legal requirement under the Equality Act 2010 and the Public Sector Bodies Accessibility Regulations. We treat these not as compliance exercises but as quality standards that make your product better for all users.

What we build to

How we test

01

Discovery + Audit

We review your existing site, analytics, search data, and competitor architecture. If this is a new build, we establish the search landscape first — what queries you need to own, what user intent looks like in your sector, and what content structure supports those goals.

02

Architecture + Wireframes

URL structure, navigation hierarchy, and page templates are defined before design begins. This is where SEO architecture decisions are made — not retrofitted later.

03

Content Mapping

Every page is mapped to a primary intent, a target query set, and a position in the user journey. Pages with no clear purpose are challenged at this stage, not after build.

04

Design + Prototype

Visual design is built on the approved architecture. We prototype key journeys and test them before committing to full build.

05

Build + QA

Development against documented specifications. QA covers functional testing, cross-browser, device testing, accessibility, performance, and schema validation.

06

Launch + Handover

Deployment with monitoring in place from day one. Handover includes documentation, analytics configuration, Search Console setup, and team training. Training is included as standard.

HOW WE WORK

How we approach information architecture

Before any design begins, we map how users move through your site. This work determines navigation structure, page hierarchy, internal linking strategy, and conversion pathways.

Getting this right at the start avoids the most common and costly problems in web development: pages that are hard to find, journeys that abandon before conversion, and content that ranks for the wrong terms.

SECTOR

Healthcare

We have worked with NHS trusts, private clinics, medical device manufacturers, and healthcare software providers. The constraints in this sector are real and specific: patient safety messaging must be accurate, accessibility requirements are non-negotiable, and digital products increasingly sit within regulated care pathways.

We understand the difference between building a marketing site for a healthcare brand and building a digital product that sits in a clinical context. The technical requirements, the content governance requirements, and the information architecture requirements are materially different from general commercial web development.

NHS Trust came to us needing a platform capable of managing patient information across all departments — including a distinct section for Kingston Maternity and a fully standalone site for Kingston Private Health, all within a single CMS. We built a unified system with custom post types for departments, consultants, news, and publications; a dynamic content display that automatically populated the correct consultant details into each department; and a patient leaflet system with search and filter by department and tag, supporting reading, download, and print. An accessibility functions panel — adjustable text size, contrast settings, screen reader compatibility — was integrated on every page. The result was a platform that reduced manual updates, improved information accuracy, and met NHS accessibility requirements across all three sites.

SECTOR

Manufacturing

Manufacturing clients typically come to us with one of two problems: a site built for a business that no longer exists, or a digital presence that has no relationship to their actual sales process. Manufacturing buying cycles are long, involve multiple stakeholders, and rarely convert on first contact. The web presence needs to support that journey — not just announce the company.

We have worked with contract manufacturers, capital equipment suppliers, and industrial services businesses. We understand how B2B manufacturing procurement works and how to build digital products that serve it correctly.

Had no independent digital presence when they came to us — their web content existed as a nested sub-page within another company's site, invisible to search engines and impossible to grow. We delivered a full standalone platform from the ground up: WordPress with Elementor, custom industrial design language reflecting their 40-year precision engineering heritage, technical SEO architecture with semantic HTML, JSON-LD schema, canonical tags, and GA4 analytics configured from day one. Park Engineering — part of the Hyde Group, serving defence, aerospace, nuclear and automotive sectors — now has an independent, searchable platform with full infrastructure control and a proper foundation for organic search growth.

WHY ASONE

Experience, expertise, authority, trust

E-E-A-T is Google's framework for evaluating whether a page deserves to rank. It is also a reasonable framework for evaluating whether an agency deserves your project. These are our honest answers to those four questions.

Experience

Building digital products since 2008. Work spans NHS trusts, precision defence manufacturers, luxury marine brands, membership platforms, and ecommerce. The sectors are different. The discipline is the same.

Expertise

WordPress, Elementor, WP Rocket, ACF, WooCommerce, and headless CMS architectures. SEO and GEO integrated through build as a technical standard. WCAG 2.2 AA compliance as a default. Core Web Vitals optimisation across every project. Hosting configuration, security, and infrastructure included where required.

Authority

Case studies covering Kingston Hospital NHS Trust, North West Aerotooling, Park Engineering (Hyde Group), and Xiren — a luxury yacht brand designed by Frank Stephenson. Published work available at asone.co.uk/case-studies/.

Trust

75% of clients retained beyond initial project. Ongoing relationships with clients in healthcare, manufacturing and marine sectors. Clients with AsOne since 2008 still in the portfolio. All case studies reference real clients, real briefs, and real outcomes.

FAQ

The questions below are written with both human readers and AI search citation in mind. They use the full question as a heading (required for FAQPage schema) and answer directly in the first sentence. This structure improves the likelihood of being cited in AI-generated answers for relevant queries.

How long does a web development project take?

Timelines depend on scope, but a typical marketing website runs 8–12 weeks from signed brief to go-live. Web applications and complex integrations are scoped individually. We provide a detailed project plan at the proposal stage and hold to it. If a deadline matters to you, tell us at the outset — we build schedules around real constraints, not optimistic estimates.

WordPress for the majority of marketing and content sites, where the editing experience and ecosystem justify it. For more complex applications we evaluate the right stack on a project-by-project basis. We do not push clients toward platforms that create dependency or make future changes expensive. Our preference is always for the most maintainable solution for your team.

Yes — WCAG 2.2 Level AA is our default build standard, not an optional add-on. For clients in healthcare and public sector work, this is a legal requirement. For all clients, it is the right way to build. Accessibility audit and remediation documentation are included in every project handover.

Every build includes the structural foundations that make a site ready for search: clean URL architecture, Core Web Vitals, semantic HTML, mobile-first build, canonical tags, and Search Console setup. These are part of the build standard. Structured data, keyword strategy, content architecture, GEO optimisation, and ongoing technical monitoring are separate — they are part of the SEO and GEO service. The distinction matters: a well-built site can rank. Without the strategy layer, it may not. Clients who combine a web build with the SEO and GEO service start from a correct foundation and see results faster as a result.

Yes. We can build to existing brand systems, take a design from your in-house team or another agency, or design and build from scratch. When we receive an external design, we review it for build feasibility, accessibility compliance, and performance implications before committing to a build estimate.

We offer WordPress warranty and hosting plans — monthly or annual — covering security updates, uptime monitoring, and WordPress core, theme, and plugin maintenance. This is a separate service, not included in the build. For clients who want a longer-term partner beyond maintenance, we also offer retained arrangements covering technical SEO reviews, CRO testing, and proactive performance management.

Yes — both sectors are primary areas of practice. Healthcare projects require careful handling of patient-facing content, accessibility compliance, and in some cases integration with clinical systems or regulated content governance processes. Manufacturing projects typically involve complex product catalogues, B2B conversion architecture, and integration with ERP or CRM systems. We have done both, repeatedly.

We carry responsibility for performance, not just delivery. Most agencies hand over a site and move on. We retain clients because we stay involved — in performance reviews, technical maintenance, and ongoing optimisation. We also integrate SEO and GEO into build as a default, which means the work we do in development directly supports your visibility in both traditional and AI-driven search.
