Comments Off on Another award for an award winning digital agency
We are delighted to announce that for the second year running at this year’s Pride of Tameside we were pronounced ‘Technology Business of The Year’!
It was another successful night at the Pride of Tameside Business Awards as we proved that hard work, dedication and success can be replicated year after year. Winning the ‘Technology Business of The Year’ award in 2017 was quite the achievement and we knew that we would have our work cut out to be considered for the award let alone win again it in 2018. Sticking to our core values – promoting long term success through digital business development we were once again able to demonstrate to the panel we were worthy winners. We can look back and can once again say in 2018 we were an award winning digital agency.
Joel the Digital Director at AsOne commented on the success saying “It’s been another successful year and to once again be acknowledged as the Technological business of the year in Tameside was a special feeling. Winning this award for the second year running is down to the incredible work that goes on behind the scenes, without the set of strong individuals we possess at AsOne we wouldn’t be the award winning digital agency we are today!”
The Tameside region boasts an ever expanding technological and digital presence and to still be recognised as the number one Technological business in the area by the panel of judges was a fantastic achievement. The judges said “AsOne are currently thriving in a competitive marketplace. Creating a fantastic offering for the future through a strategic, tech led approach, while maintaining a strong focus on apprentices.”
It wasn’t just a night to celebrate our own success we were also able to celebrate with Matthews Environmental Solutions who picked up the Export Business of The Year Award. We have been working with Matthews Environmental Solutions for a number of years developing their digital prowess and to see them lift their award was another sweet moment.
At AsOne we are always looking to help local businesses explore digital development and real growth in their industry. If your looking to work with an award winning digital agency in the Tameside area, feel free tocontact us and find out how we can help you succeed and become an award winner!
Comments Off on Magento Migration – Time to Make the Move?
Is it time to consider a Magento Migration? Over the past decade more and more businesses have shifted to using the internet as a key sales channel, opening online stores and selling their wares directly to the public.
For many of these businesses, the online shopping experience is not their unique selling point and their strengths lie in other areas of the business. In this instance, building out a bespoke shopping cart would be unnecessary given the large number and high quality off-the-shelf products that are available today.
For companies like manufacturers, owner operators or importers, a Magento migration could be the perfect step to take to give the online store a real boost.
Benefits of Magento
Magneto is now a well-established brand and a leader in eCommerce, having been acquired by tech giant Adobe earlier this year. The platform has several benefits over the competition including:
Customisation – Magento is both highly flexible and customisable, meaning it can be tailored to meet your exact specifications. This is achieved through a vast array or configuration settings and a plethora of third party extensions. If these extensions don’t meet your requirements, you can also build bespoke add-ons and integrations.
Integration – One of the things that separates Magento from other platforms is the ability to seamlessly integrate with other systems like payments, accounting or warehousing. Integration removes manual linkages from your processes and helps to ensure the smooth running of your business.
Extremely scalable – Magento is designed to cope with large workloads, so you can be confident that it will scale securely as your business grows. This is true for the underlying infrastructure, meaning that in periods of high web traffic the platform does not falter. It is also true in terms of features and functionality, for example the support for multiple languages will be useful as you start to expand internationally.
Mobile and search engine friendly – In this “mobile-first” world, more and more transactions are made through mobile handsets rather than desktop PCs. Magento is up to date with the latest requirements to ensure that it is fully functional on mobile. This also has a knock-on effect on SEO as search engines reward sites that are mobile friendly.
A Magento migration is just one of a handful of options that companies have when it comes to setting up an eCommerce business. Depending on the size and type of your business, you might be better placed exploring the alternatives, particularly if you have less complicated demands of the platform.
OpenCart – OpenCart offers flexibility and scalability but at a slightly lower price point to Magento. It also comes with less in terms of third party extensions and customisations.
WooCommerce – If you are looking for something robust and scalable with minimal cost to get started, the WooCommerce plug-in for WordPress is an excellent choice. This is a simple way to add shopping cart functionality to an existing site with lower hosting costs and more cost effective development costs when you want to upgrade, expand or introduce new functions.
The eCommerce Partner of Choice
At AsOne, we have in depth knowledge of the best eCommerce platforms and have been helping businesses get online for almost two decades. We recognise that for the vast majority of businesses, it makes little sense to build out a platform from scratch, and we would recommend using eCommerce functionality from someone like Magento, OpenCart or WooCommerce as outlined above.
We’ve helped clients with everything from simple shopping cart setup, through to complex integrations and customisations and have extensive knowledge of what works best in different scenarios.
If you’d like more information on how AsOne can help with your Magento Migration, or have general queries about which eCommerce platform might be best suited to your needs, don’t hesitate to get in touch and speak to one of our experts.
This year we will be attending The Business Show at the Excel London on November the 14th and 15th. Comments Off on Achieving great web design with Precision Coaching
We recently completed a website development project for Precision Coaching. Precision Coaching are a team of professional sports coaches, medics and specialists who work with novice athletes all the way up to olympic athletes, world champions and even Gordon Ramsay! Precision Coaching came to us in need of a sleek new website using professional web design to promote their coaching expertise online. We got to work and put together a modern website which uses great website design throughout.
The home page uses striking imagery to engage users as soon as they land on the website. This imagery is used throughout the website to give it a really professional feel. The website uses the top tabs to navigate the entire site making it incredibly user friendly.
To have great website design the website needs to be adaptable and offer longevity to a client. We will be implementing a number of future extensions on the website to add value. These extensions include a members exclusive discount system. This discount system will be accessible to all members who join through the website offering fantastic discounts on professional training and sports brands. These additional extensions are made possible due to the website’s design.
To implement great web design you have to make sure the entire site is mobile friendly. Pages use drop down boxes for large blocks of text where needed to accommodate those mobile visitors. The ‘Who We Are’ page uses hidden boxes of text which are opened on a click to maintain the professional web design.
Comments Off on Magento 2 Upgrade – Staying on the Front Foot
Magento 2 Upgrade – Staying on the Front Foot
Magento is arguably the most popular and high-performance eCommerce software available today, offering a highly customisable and scalable platform on which to build your online business.
Magento recently announced that they have extended the support period of Magento 1 versions until June 2020, as so many customers were not prepared to begin the upgrade to Magento 2. Crucially though, this support does not extend to any third-party integrations or security tools, many of which are not compatible with the latest Magento upgrade.
With so many businesses relying on Magento to trade online, it is vital that they start the migration plan today.
Getting the Magento 2 Upgrade Right
To ensure that the upgrade goes smoothly there are several things that you should keep in mind:
Integration with other systems – One of the benefits of Magento is the flexibility to integrate with other systems like accounting, warehousing or payments platforms. These links are key to the smooth running of operations, but may lose functionality in the upgrade process. These integrations should be checked and rebuilt as necessary to keep everything working properly.
Customisations – Any custom build extensions to Magento will not be supported after the upgrade, so you should identify where in your processes you’re relying on customisations and check that they are functioning correctly.
Security – More and more businesses today are falling victim to cyber-attacks and criminals will no doubt look to exploit victims that are not on top of the latest security patches. As part of the upgrade process you should use this as an opportunity to check how secure your online store is and make improvements as you see fit.
Speed – When it comes to hosting and servers, Magento 2 is far more resource hungry than previous versions and therefore it requires its own dedicated and optimised server. AsOne will calculate your short term and lifetime costs of upgrading to Magento 2 and compare it with moving to another suitable platform with lower ongoing costs so that we always give you the best possible advice.
Test, test and retest – With reliance on so many different components for the smooth running of your business, it is vital that you test extensively any upgrades before they go live. Even short periods of down time can cost a significant amount of time and cause reputational damage. One of the benefits of partnering with AsOne is that we have extensive knowledge of common challenges from our experience working with other clients. This empowers us to make all the right checks before we push any changes to the live environment.
Many of these tasks require highly skilled technical development skills and it is therefore not recommended that you attempt to manage this upgrade in house. From a risk mitigation perspective, it makes far more sense to rely on external expertise who can manage the process for you end-to-end.
Magento 2 Upgrade – The AsOne Way
At AsOne our approach has always been to partner with our clients over the long term, and the recent Magento upgrade decision is another great example of the benefits of this model. For many of our clients, we helped them design and build their eCommerce business right from the outset.
For these clients, we were able to advise them well in advance of the available upgrade, and we have worked with them to craft a migration strategy that had minimal impact on their business, whilst ensuring the site was stable and secure at all times.
In this way, we help our clients stay on the front foot with the latest developments in technology, whether Magento related or not.
If you would like any more information regarding the Magento 2 upgrade, or would like to discuss how AsOne can support your eCommerce business on a more ongoing basis, don’t hesitate to get in touch. You can also catch us at The Business Show at the Excel on November 14th and 15th on stand 1514. Not only will we be discussing all things eCommerce at the show but if you meet us and and agree to commission a wordpress eCommerce website with us before 2019 you will receive 1 years free warranty + hosting!

Comments Off on Business Development For Accounting Firms
Historically, business development for accounting firms would have relied heavily on referrals, infrequent print advertising, or perhaps a business development manager to cold call potential new clients.
But technology has dramatically changed the way that businesses reach their target audience over the past two decades, and these digital methods are finding their way into Accountancy.
Digital Business development for accounting firms
The approach to designing and implementing a digital business development strategy tends to look as follows:
Current state analysis – We always start by gaining a full and thorough understanding of where your business is today and what strategies you have employed in the past. We’ll assess other companies as well; what are your competitors doing that is effective and replicable? But also, what are companies outside your industry doing that we can learn from? This helps us to make informed decisions about which strategies will be most suitable for you and your business.
Website building – Your website is your virtual shop front and hopefully the first thing that your customers will land on if they are searching for you online. It is also central to the business development strategy. Building a great website is no longer a nice to have but a clear necessity in the modern business environment. We’ll work with your through the build, giving you guidance on the best options. If you already have a site we’ll assess the current performance and look at where we can make improvements.
Data and analytics – Understanding the data is key to any business development campaign. We always integrate analytics into our marketing strategies as standard, this enables us to capture valuable data that tells us what is working and what isn’t. We can look at the sources of new leads, how traffic to the site is growing over time and how this ultimately correlates with increased revenue
Outside of these core elements, it is also important to think about the security of your site and to ensure that you are properly compliant with new regulations like GDPR.
Ongoing strategy review
At AsOne our preferred approach is to partner with our clients over the long term and evolve the strategy as the business grows and matures. This gives us the opportunity to implement ongoing strategy reviews, where we start from the beginning, reassessing what is working well and continually looking at what we can learn and apply from other sources.
This tried and tested methodology has helped our client’s businesses prosper over the past decade and a half.

Google are shutting down Google+ for consumers due to thousands of accounts having their data exposed to third parties.
News has come out of Google that they will be closing down the consumer side of Google+ over the next 10 months. The closure is coming about due to around 500,000 users having their data exposed to third parties without being made aware.
According to sources from the Wall Street Journal the company have know about the issue since March but decided not to disclose this information till now:
“They opted not to disclose the issue this past spring, in part because of fears that doing so would draw regulatory scrutiny and cause reputational damage”.
Google have since defended the decision not to disclose the leak till now, writing in their blog: “Whenever user data may have been affected, we go beyond our legal requirements and apply several criteria focused on our users in determining whether to provide notice.”
They eventually decided to disclose the information on the back of a review from their Privacy & Data Protection Office. The review found that they couldn’t accurately identify those users affected, establish if there was any evidence of misuse or if there was any actions a developer/user could take in response to their data being leaked.
In light of these issues concerning their ability to maintain the security levels of data on the platform coupled with ‘very low’ usage, the consumers version of Google+ will be no more come August 2019.
Google+ The Not So Social Network
Google+ launched in 2011 was set up to rival Facebook and Twitter it promised to offer a different experience letting you connect and build relationships with like-minded users who have the same passion as you. Although a nice idea at the start the consumer usage of the platform has continued to fall with figures coming out of Monday’s report that “The consumer version of Google+ currently has low usage and engagement: 90% of Google+ user sessions are less than five seconds.”
What does this mean for Google+ for businesses?
Google has said that it will continue to offer Google+ powered networks for businesses currently using the platform. It could be good news for enterprises who currently use the platform as google announced a change in focus and direction of the platform “We’ve decided to focus on our enterprise efforts and will be launching new features purpose-built for businesses.” with more information due soon.
Google+ maybe one social network you no longer have to consider in your marketing plan but the power of social media and implementing the correct social strategy should not be overlooked. If you want to find out how social media could help promote growth within your business contact one of the digital marketing experts today at AsOne. Contact Us.
Comments Off on Crafting Innovative Marketing Strategies for Accounting Firms
With so many different options available today, devising marketing strategies for accounting firms can seem overwhelming. All too often the temptation is to stick with traditional approaches that might have worked in the past, rather than taking the steps necessary to embrace digital marketing methodologies.
Thankfully more and more accounting firms are now looking at how they can leverage platforms like social media, pay per click ads and content marketing to help grow their business.
Marketing Strategies for accounting firms
When crafting marketing strategies for accounting firms, there are several things you should keep in mind, such as:
Attract NEW customers – The core driver behind most marketing campaigns is ultimately to attract new customers. This is so obvious, but it is sometimes overlooked. Doing the same things that you’ve tried in the past is likely to yield the same results, so try varying your approach, marketing through different channels or positioning your message in a slightly different way. This might include targeting slightly different keywords through an AdWords campaign, or buying banner ads that appeal to a certain industry that perhaps you haven’t engaged with before.
Fit with your brand – Launching a digital marketing campaign doesn’t mean you need to reinvent your business. Your marketing strategy should be a true reflection of your brand, the way you operate and the type of clients you are trying to attract. If you are trying to be something you’re not, it will show.
Differentiate from the competition – While you want to stay true to your own core values, you also want to stand out from the competition. This means emphasising the things that your company is great at or does differently from everyone else.
Engage your existing clients – Marketing needn’t be all about attracting new customers, in fact, it is often easier to upsell your services to existing customers. There is also value in using your marketing channels to provide useful value add informational services to these customers which might increase the likelihood of repeat custom. Engaging these customers through insightful email campaigns, reminding them of key financial dates, or providing useful business advice will always be appreciated.
Learn and evolve – A key part about successful marketing strategies for accounting firms is that they continually evolve and improve. By analysing performance data you can highlight which elements of the campaign worked well and which should need to be refined. You can also double down on the things that are working particularly well. For instance, if you find that your messages resonate with a particular industry, you can step up your efforts to reach this audience, targeting more relevant keywords, or placing more banner ads in relevant locations.
Leverage Industry Experts
A final factor to consider when thinking about your marketing strategy is whether you would benefit from external support and advice.
At AsOne we consider ourselves an ideas agency, and specialise in bringing fresh ideas to our customers to help them promote their businesses in innovative ways. We’ve been building marketing strategies for accounting firms for a number of years and have extensive knowledge of what works and what doesn’t.
If you’d like some advice on how best to get your campaign started, don’t hesitate to get in touch.
Comments Off on Building an Effective Hotel Online Marketing Strategy
Like many other industries, the Internet has revolutionised travel and tourism. Online agents and aggregators have forever changed the way people book hotel accommodation, increasing the competition and driving down prices for consumers; because of this, building an effective hotel online marketing strategy has never been more important.
Commission payments to aggregators have also decreased margins, putting hotel operators under increasing pressure.
However, hoteliers are starting to leverage hotel online marketing techniques to increase direct bookings and push margins back up.
Implementing your Hotel Online Marketing Strategy A good holistic marketing strategy for your hotel would encompass a mix of the following components:
Paid ads – Paid ads can be used across a variety of platforms like Facebook or Google, and will give an instant boost in traffic to your site. You can also work directly with other sites that will relate to your target audience placing banner ads to help reach new customers.
Local SEO – Focusing on local SEO will ensure you appear near the top of the search listings when people are looking for a hotel in your local area. This involves optimising the content on your website to target specific search terms relating to your location. Consider how your hotel online marketing strategy could make reference to your local landmarks, or local history.
Social media – Social media has become fundamental to the way that customers make decisions today. Your hotel online marketing strategy must consider how you interact directly with your customers, answering their questions and keeping them informed of developments. It is also a great way to get across the specific spirit and culture of your hotel, through the words that you choose and the images you share.
Third party reviews – the impact of sites like TripAdvisor simply cannot be ignored when it comes to hotel marketing. The vast majority of people will now actively seek out third-party reviews before they make a booking. You should actively promote these reviews by integrating them directly to your site, showing potential customers positive feedback from others and giving them social validation that they are making a wise choice by staying with you. If you receive negative feedback, take this on board and make changes to your proposition if necessary. Always be very careful about how you respond to comments, appearing petty or disagreeable will only further damage your reputation.
One of the key things that your hotel online marketing strategy gives you is the opportunity to celebrate the things that differentiate your business from the competition and make you stand out from the crowd. A vital part of the strategy should be to find your niche audience and talk in a language that appeals directly to them. A benefit of this marketing model is that you can integrate analytics into the process, which will show you where your web traffic is coming from and how they interact with the content, which empowers to you make gradual improvements over time. Find a Partner for Success Building out the expertise to craft a hotel online marketing strategy in-house can take time. A faster route to success is to partner with third parties that have a proven track record of delivering these strategies.
At AsOne, we have worked with a number of hotels, helping them build their online presence through innovative marketing techniques.
If you’d like more information on how AsOne can help you launch an effective hotel online marketing strategy, don’t hesitate to get in touch with one of our marketing and business development experts.

Comments Off on A Lesson in Promoting Your Training Course
Promoting training courses online has never been more important. When we don’t know something, the first thing we do is Google it. Whether a business owner is searching for training for all his employees, or an individual looking to boost their credentials, the vast majority will start their search on the internet. It’s also a search that someone does with the intent to convert, rather than a general information search; so a click that you don’t get is a click that your competitors do – and it’s essential that you’re doing everything you can to increase your own chances.
Our Tips for Promoting Training Courses
At AsOne, we’ve seen first hand the effects that good digital marketing can have on a company’s sales, growth and reputation, both online and offline. When it comes to promoting training courses, there are some essential tips that we’ve learnt in our years of experience.
People don’t know what they don’t know That’s why they’re going on a course! Make sure that your landing pages aren’t full of technical jargon, as people who need to go on your course don’t know these terms and won’t be searching for them. This will prevent your pages coming up on Google when someone searches for less industry-specific terms. At AsOne, we have many years of experience in delivering Search Engine Optimisation strategy, and this is invaluable when promoting training courses, to get them to the top of Google results.
Understand how to reach your identified customers If your courses are apprenticeships or foundational skills, it’s crucial to ensure that your learners can find you on social media, and your pages need to be well maintained. If your average learner is slightly older, make sure that you’re posting relevant content on your website, and consider running paid search ads. This will help customers to feel that there will be other people like them on the course, making them more likely to attend. AsOne have a huge amount of experience running successful Pay-Per-Click campaigns and social media platforms, to great effect.
Use testimonies and reviews Nothing is as powerful when promoting training courses as testimonies from successful students and course providers alike. It’s important that customers are assured of the quality of the teaching on your course, and this is the best way to do it. Personal recommendations are just as important online as they ever have been offline, and you should use as many as you can. These can be collected from anywhere, so it’s really important that your marketing campaign is joined up and controlled from one place, allowing no feedback to slip through. That’s why using a digital marketing agency like AsOne, who can provide a holistic strategy managed from one place, is a really good option for promoting training courses.

Comments Off on Finding the Ideal Financial Marketing Agency
Digital marketing has spread rapidly over the past few years, revolutionising the way that businesses find and interact with their customers. Some industries have been quicker to adapt than others, leveraging search marketing and social media platforms to accelerate their business growth. Each industry has its own rules and conventions, so it is smart to pick an agency which has significant experience as a financial marketing agency – such as AsOne.
Marketing Strategies for Financial Services
The financial services industry has a number of specific challenges, such as regulatory pressures and a need to differentiate from the competition, that impact the way their services are marketed.
As a typically traditional industry, many financial companies have been slower to adapt, and at AsOne we have been helping these companies embrace the latest trends in digital marketing.
Rather than building the necessary skills in house, by partnering with a financial marketing agency like AsOne, businesses can quickly get up to speed and benefit from our expert knowledge.
The AsOne Way
At AsOne we’ve developed several qualities that make us uniquely positioned as an innovative financial marketing agency. This approach has been tested and refined with our existing clients like credit unions and other financial services businesses.
Expert knowledge, innovative application – Our experience has been gained working with clients across a wide range of industries, and honed for the financial markets across a number of clients. This gives us excellent visibility of the latest trends in digital marketing and allows us to borrow ideas from other industries and apply them to financial services.
Holistic strategy – Our approach to digital marketing is always to keep in mind the bigger picture. Increasing visits to your website, or likes on social media counts for very little unless it translates into improved customer experience and increased revenue. We always keep these business goals front of mind as we craft our strategies.
Long-term relationships – We understand that no two businesses are the same and one size certainly doesn’t fit all. As a leading financial marketing agency, we look to work with our clients over the long-term, understanding the complexities of their business and tailoring the approach as necessary.
Agile approach – We’ve been operating long enough to know that what works, changes. To enjoy long-term success you have to be willing to adapt your approach. This is particularly true in the complex world of financial services where regulation and changing consumer trends can cause shifts in the industry.
Get started today
We often work with clients who have little experience of digital marketing strategies and the impact that it can have on their business. We’ll happily work with them from the start, scoping out where their business is today, and the longer-term aspirations for the business’ future.
If your organisation would benefit from expert digital marketing advice as part of a broader business development strategy don’t hesitate to get in touch and speak to one of our advisors at AsOne, where our experience qualifies us as a leading financial marketing agency.
Comments Off on Marketing Strategies for Financial Services
The highly complex and competitive world of financial services faces some unique challenges when it comes to marketing. But marketing strategies for financial services have evolved over time, taking advantage of new advances in digital marketing in a bid to overcome these challenges.
In many instances digital marketing strategies from other industries have now been successfully adapted and applied for use in the financial services industry.
Implementing marketing strategies for financial services
The specific implementation of digital marketing strategies will vary depending on the outcome that you are looking to achieve, for example:
Grow your funnel – To increase the inflow of customers to your site, paid advertising can be a very quick and cost effective method. Google AdWords campaigns, or paid ads on social media allow you to target specific customers and only pay when they click on your ad. An alternative method is to use technical SEO to optimise the content on your site and increase your ranking in the popular search engines like Google and Bing. Increasing your visibility in these platforms ensures you will get a much higher volume of traffic to your site and improves your sales funnel.
Educate your audience – Digital marketing provides a unique opportunity to educate customers in a way that simply wasn’t possible in the past. Content marketing, through articles or blog posts allows you to provide detailed information to your audience that will help them make a more informed decision about which products are right for them. This could also include tools such as savings or mortgage overpayment calculators which remove much of the complicated maths from the decision making process. These types of tools are often popular with customers and could keep them coming back to your site in the future. Marketing strategies for financial services that can help to secure repeat business are invaluable.
Engage your customers – Social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter are excellent channels to provide great service to your customers. This can be both proactive and reactive; pre-empting concerns that customers might have and sharing your thoughts, or responding to specific customer questions.
Cross sell / upsell – Once you have customers on board, you can build on your relationship and increase your revenue by offering them other relevant products. Email marketing is particularly good for this, as you can email details of offers and promotions specifically to customers that you think will be most interested. Analysis of your customer base allows you to send out highly relevant offers, preventing customers from feeling like they are being spammed.
Using a combination of these strategies will help you to grow your pipeline and keep potential new customers engaged through the sales process. By providing genuinely useful content and tools you can also build strong relationships that lead to repeat custom over time.
Build and refine your strategy
As with other industries, marketing strategies for financial services should not be static, but constantly evolving and improving over time.
By using data and analytics you can also quickly understand which channels are getting the best traction, and where you need to refine your approach further. This data can also be used to provide far more personalisation to customers, delivering content that is most relevant to them based on things such as their location, demographic or browsing history.
At AsOne we have experience of employing these techniques across a wide range of industries and have expert knowledge of what works and what doesn’t. We work with our customers over the long term to implement forward thinking strategies, then continue to support them through the optimisation process.
If you’d like more information on marketing strategies for financial services, don’t hesitate to get in touch and speak to one of our experts.
Alternatively, you can find us at the North East Expo on May 2nd 2019, at Kingston Park, Newcastle-upon-Tyne.
Marketing for lawyers is a complex issue. Whilst important in all sectors, the ability of your marketing campaign to foster trust and confidence in a target audience who may be more distrusting and unconfident than normal is essential to the success of a legal firm.
Here at AsOne we are experts in marketing for lawyers and understand the industry. Comments Off on Fine-tuning your Construction Marketing Strategy
The construction industry has been through some interesting times over the past decade, with the Credit Crisis restricting the capital available for new developments, an influx of foreign investment fuelling the buy to let market and Brexit casting doubt on the future of the UK economy.
As the industry has changed and in many ways become more competitive, construction firms are looking to adapt to reach new customers and grow their businesses.
Industry-wide pressures are forcing many construction companies to take a step back and rethink their entire approach to business. Construction has not traditionally been seen as a marketing savvy industry, and has been slow to adopt some of the latest innovations in digital marketing that many companies now take for granted.
By embracing digital marketing these businesses have been able to explore the potential of opening up new revenue streams; for instance by switching from pure B2B to also having a B2C offering.
One of the key benefits of digital marketing is customer segmentation and the ability to serve different messages to different types of potential customer. This is due to a number of factors:
Targeted ads – Paid advertising platforms like Google AdWords and Facebook Ads allow you to target your message at a very small customer group. For example you might only want to target people in a certain age range in certain locations. This ensures that you are focusing all your energy and marketing budget on talking to the right people, rather than reaching a broader audience who might not be interested in your services.
Landing pages – By building so called “landing pages” on your site, you can tailor your message to appeal to each of the individual customer segments that you decide to target. These pages are the first thing that new customers will see when following your adverts from other sites and are your opportunity to serve content that will be uniquely relevant to them. For example, the way you pitch to a B2B client would be very different to the approach you would use for B2C and this approach gives you that flexibility.
Analytics – Data and statistics are a fundamental part of digital marketing as they provide you concrete evidence as to what is working and what isn’t. You will be able to see whether which messages resonate best with customers based on which pages are most popular, how long people spend on your site and how many people sign up for your email list.
This approach provides you with valuable data that allows you to iterate and improve not only your marketing messages, but your entire business proposition over time. As you respond to direct feedback from customers you can make gradual changes that will improve traction with your target segments and ultimately therefore revenue.

Comments Off on Embracing Digital Marketing for Manufacturing Industry Incumbents
Digital transformation initiatives are dominating the conversation in many industries and manufacturing is no different. Digital marketing for manufacturing industry companies is now a big trend, with marketers and technology leaders looking at how to boost their businesses.
For some, this can mean targeting a whole segment of customers that they wouldn’t have been able to engage in the past and switching from pure B2B to also having a B2C offering.
For manufacturers, this trend is being driven by an increasingly complex and competitive market, with globalisation and Brexit forcing businesses to rethink their strategy.
Understanding Customer Data
One of the key benefits of digital marketing is the detailed analysis you can do on customer interactions. Analytics packages can tell you precisely how a customer arrived at your site, which pages they looked at and how long they spend on each page. This gives you incredibly valuable data that you can use to improve your marketing and sales funnel.
This information can be used in for following ways:
Average time on page – By looking at which pages potential customers spend longest on, you can estimate which pages are the most valued and are having the most impact. For instance, poorly written content or poor-quality images may mean that customers click off immediately, whereas people spending longer on certain pages could be taken as a positive sign.
Click through rates – You can look at click through rates to test how engaging your messages are. This applies to links and buttons on your own site, but also adverts that you place on other sites. If the click through rate on your products is too low, perhaps you need to reword the content to make it more attractive.
Landing pages – With a website you can test different landing pages to make your product appeal to different audiences. For instance, you could have a different landing page for B2B vs. B2C customers.
A/B testing – The practice of A/B or multivariate testing means running experiments with different versions of a similar ad, or webpage to see which one is more popular. You can use this to quickly double down on things that
Taking a data driven and insights based approach is an excellent way to gain a better understanding of your customers’ needs, which can be subsequently fed back into product development.
You can even use channels like social media to engage more directly with customers to ask specific questions of them and get feedback on your ideas before you invest too much time or money in them.

Comments Off on Finding a Manufacturing Marketing Agency to Jumpstart your Growth
Over the past few years digital technologies have revolutionised the way many industries reach their target audience and interact with their customers. However, manufacturing businesses have been slower to adapt and are only recently starting to engage with marketing agencies to find out what these emerging technologies could enable for them.
We have seen several key trends emerge through working with manufacturing and engineering companies over the past few years. These point to some of the key reasons companies are seeking out third party agencies to help with their marketing strategies.
Introduction of digital marketing practices – As an industry manufacturing has been late to the game with regards to digital marketing techniques. While other industries have quickly shifted to online channels, building websites and leveraging social media channels, many manufacturers are only just starting to experiment.
Getting up to speed – We find most manufacturing companies don’t have the expertise in house to run digital marketing campaigns and are therefore seeking support from a manufacturing marketing agency who can guide them through the process. At AsOne we are fully transparent with our customers and not only craft the strategy for them, but talk them through the approach and help to get them up to speed.
Uncertainty around Brexit – Brexit has caused a great deal of uncertainty in the UK, and many manufacturers in particular are cautious about how their business will be impacted. This has led them to explore new ways to fuel their growth, such as finding new channels to reach their target audience.
Shift to B2C models – One new model that manufacturers are increasingly exploring is the shift away from purely B2B relationships and towards B2C products or services. Digital marketing has made this easier than ever, enabling manufacturers to launch ecommerce platforms and interact directly with retail customers through social media.
A combination of these factors is driving interest in digital marketing techniques, with manufacturers questioning how they can benefit from these technologies and what new opportunities they will create for them.
The Manufacturing Marketing Agency of Choice
At AsOne we have developed a specialist approach to working with companies in the manufacturing sector, collaborating closely with our clients to drive long-term business growth. Our deep understanding of the industry and intricate knowledge of our clients business means we are uniquely positioned to spot these strategic growth opportunities.
We explore all the options available and craft digital marketing strategies that are tailored to the precise needs and budgets of our customers.
If you’d like more information or a conversation about how AsOne could become your preferred manufacturing marketing agency, don’t hesitate to get in touch.
Comments Off on Engineering Marketing – Changing Strategy in Challenging Times
The current economic climate is putting pressure on engineering and manufacturing firms from multiple directions, forcing them to rethink their existing business models and look for new ways in increase revenue and margin.
International competition – Globalisation means that UK based companies are now increasingly competing against engineers from across the globe, who often have a much lower cost base and can compete aggressively on price.
Global collaboration – Digital platforms and collaboration tools have made it easier than ever for people to source and work with engineering firms anywhere in the world, further increasing the competition.
Shifting demands – Automated manufacturing methods and rapid prototyping technologies are changing customer demands and impacting the sales cycle
And as if the landscape wasn’t already difficult enough, Brexit is forcing many companies to put longer-term plans on hold, and pull back necessary investment until the economy is on surer footing.
As a result, companies looking for new ways to differentiate from their competitors to help attract new business. Some companies are also seeking to resolve these issues but taking back control of their business relationships, investing more in digital marketing to reach new B2B clients, while also establishing B2C offerings.
Engineering Marketing Strategy
Engineering as an industry hasn’t traditionally led the field in digital marketing, and has been late to adopt some of the technologies that have revolutionised other industries in recent years.
There are now a plethora of ways that companies can more precisely target their customers, and build loyalty and trust with potential clients. This includes:
Content marketing – Writing articles is a great way to educate customers about your product or service, calling out why you are better than your competitors and proactively addressing any questions they might have.
Social media – Platforms like Facebook and Twitter offer a way to interact with your potential customers in a way that would have been inconceivable just a few years ago. You can reply directly to customer queries and share updates and news relating to your business.
Email marketing – Once you have built up a list of email subscribers, you can use this platform to keep people informed of new deals or promotions and hopefully generate some repeat business.
Third party reviews – Review sites like Tripadvisor are well known, but review sites can have a powerful impact for virtually any business. This is particularly true when you integrate third party reviews into your own website, providing social validation to people who are thinking of making a purchase.
All of these elements can be used in combination to work as a customised engineering marketing strategy for your business.
Making the Change
At AsOne we embraced the digital revolution from day one, helping entire industries understand what the internet and digital marketing strategies will mean to them. And we’ve always viewed engineering marketing as just one part of a much broader digital business development strategy that will help to drive your company forward.

Comments Off on Industrial Marketing – The Digital Transformation
Industrial marketing has lagged behind other industries in adopting modern digital techniques, however things are starting to shift and companies are realising the benefits that a digital transformation can bring.
By embracing things like email marketing, social media, content marketing and SEO, industrial manufacturers have the opportunity to increase their margins, reduce their sales costs and accelerate their business growth.
It also opens the opportunity for new revenue streams like selling direct to consumers.
Digital Industrial Marketing Benefits
A digital industrial marketing strategy comes with several key advantages over more traditional approaches including:
Find warm leads – The very nature of digital marketing means that customers who land on your site are already qualified as having an interest in your product or service. You are not reaching out to potential customers, or sending cold emails, instead the traffic is inbound.
High precision targeting – Advertising through digital platforms like Facebook, Google or LinkedIn allows you to send highly targeted ads to very niche audiences. This means that you don’t waste time and budget trying to attract people who are unlikely to convert into sales and instead focus on high potential customer segments.
Data and analytics – Every digital marketing campaign is underpinned by data and analytics. This means you can track precisely what works and what doesn’t, and evolve your marketing strategy over time to have maximum impact. You can quickly stop the campaigns that don’t work, and duplicate or ramp up campaigns that are most successful.
Reduce sales staff – If you embrace digital marketing, your website will quickly become your number one sales tool, or at least presales agent. The site becomes a place where you can educate customers on your products and guide them through the early stages of the sales cycle. You can also directly answer their questions by including an FAQ page.
Executing your Industrial Marketing Strategy
At AsOne, we partner with our customers over the long-term to help them achieve their business goals. We work with customers on their holistic digital business development strategies, taking into account how new technology can create opportunities and rejuvenate business growth.
Most companies lack the in house knowledge to execute a large scale digital transformation, and we guide these clients to help set a strategic direction and a plan to get there.
If you’d like more information on how we can help you on this journey, or would just like to know how an industrial marketing plan could help boost your business, don’t hesitate to get in touch and speak to one of our experts.
Comments Off on Luxury Hotel Marketing – Promoting your Luxury Hotel the Right Way
Luxury hotel marketing has become increasingly competitive over the past few years, as customers look to online travel agencies to get the best price on their accommodation.
Luxury hoteliers can use the latest developments in technology and digital marketing to their advantage, highlighting the benefits of paying that little bit extra for a luxury hotel stay.
At AsOne, we have experience helping clients promote luxury products both in the leisure and hospitality industries, and we understand the key traits to keep in mind to market them effectively.
Key traits of Luxury Hotel Marketing
Pick the right channels – Finding the right avenues to reach your target customers is vital when marketing any luxury product, and this will be reflected in your choice of marketing channels. There is no point investing marketing spend to reach an audience that will never buy your product. Whether you decide to partner with other luxury brands or use highly targeted social media campaigns, always be sure that you have your target customer in mind.
Attention to detail – Customers looking for a luxury hotel will have very high expectations for their stay. Their perception of whether they will get that from your hotel starts from their very first interaction with your luxury hotel marketing, whether on your own website, or an ad on someone else’s. It is vital that you spend the time checking and rechecking everything to ensure that you don’t miss any minor mistakes. This could be anything from spelling errors to incorrect details in the terms of an offer.
Build loyalty – As a luxury hotel, you have the opportunity to create the air of an exclusive luxury club that guests feel part of and want to return to again and again. This will help build loyalty and increase your direct bookings. Maintaining an email list and sending exclusive offers can be an effective way of doing this. Remember when buying a luxury item, customers are buying into that brand’s lifestyle and values.
Commit to excellence – Luxury hotel marketing is greatly benefited by ads that help you stand out from the competition, and demonstrate that your product is different and superior to what people can get elsewhere. Using things such as high production quality video on your site helps to set the standard for the rest of their stay.
In luxury hotel marketing it is particularly important that your brand values shine through everything you do. It is safe to assume that value is of less concern for your target market, instead, they are looking for unique luxury experiences that they wouldn’t find elsewhere. Therefore it is vital that your marketing emphasises the things that make you great, and that makes you stand out from the competition.
Luxury Hotel marketing in partnership with AsOne
At AsOne, we always invest the time upfront to get to know our clients, because we understand that there is no one size fits all approach to promoting businesses, and this is particularly true of luxury hotel marketing.
We seek to build long-term relationships, and craft best in class digital business development strategies that evolve with your business and external market dynamics.
For more information on how AsOne can help you promote your luxury hotel brand, don’t hesitate to get in touch and one of our marketing experts will talk you through the available options.

Comments Off on Perfecting Your Manufacturing Marketing Strategy
Advances in digital technology are opening up the possibility of radically new types of companies and business models. Companies like Uber and Netflix would have been almost impossible to imagine not that long ago. Virtually every industry has seen some degree of change, with incumbents disrupted and supply chains rewritten.
One major shift has been the ability for businesses to cut out the middleman and sell direct to retail customers. It has become simple for virtually anyone to create a product and sell it over the internet.
In the manufacturing industry, this means that an increasing number of businesses have started to shift away from purely B2B relationships and are now also looking to build B2C revenue streams as well.
Manufacturing Marketing Strategy Components
One of the key factors behind the shift to more B2C sales for manufacturers is the development of new digital marketing channels. This has made it easier and more cost effective than ever before to reach a retail audience.
This could include this such as:
Content marketing – Writing articles and blog posts for your website is a fantastic way to demonstrate your expertise and proactively answer your customers’ questions. It is also an effective way to get your site a good ranking on the search engines.
Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) – SEO is the practice of deliberately improving your website content to make it more appealing to search engines, this too will make sure that you appear highly in the results.
Google AdWords – A quicker way to drive traffic to your site is with paid ads. The Google AdWords platform is probably the best known and allows you to pay per individual click for referrals to your website.
LinkedIn – LinkedIn differs from other social media platforms in that its focus is on professionals. This makes it useful both as a B2B and B2C advertising platform.
Facebook – Social media is a great way to interact directly with customers. Facebook in particular can be used to share information with your customers, or to place adverts to direct customers to your products.
Aside from helping to make more direct sales, these channels have other important benefits like improving your brand awareness or helping you to find new employees.
Tying Your Strategy Together
Tying together an all-encompassing manufacturing marketing strategy that includes B2B and B2C sales is an effective way to boost revenues, especially given that some of the channels mentioned above could appeal to both audiences.
Building a holistic manufacturing marketing strategy isn’t a straightforward task, and requires both a detailed understanding of your business and expert knowledge of digital marketing techniques. That is why at AsOne we seek to work in close partnerships with our clients over the long-term, building up an intimate understanding of how their businesses function. We understand our clients needs which allows us to create a Manufacturing Marketing Strategy that is truly bespoke to their requirements.
If you’d like to know how AsOne can help you reach a new segment of customers and grow your business, don’t hesitate to get in touch and speak with one of our experts.
Comments Off on Manufacturing Marketing – Embracing the digital revolution
Over the past few years technology has completely revolutionised the way businesses market their products and services.
Industries have been completely overhauled by the internet, with middlemen cut out and incumbents displaced. New business models have developed that would have been completely impossible in the pre-internet era.
However, some types of companies have been late to the party and still rely on old fashioned ways of reaching their customers.
Manufacturing marketing – Slow to adopt?
Manufacturing is one area that has been slower to embrace these new models and marketing techniques.
Many manufacturers therefore still rely on their B2B relationships and are missing out on the huge opportunity to sell directly to retail customers.
While this might have seemed a daunting proposition in the past, setting up an ecommerce store and building a presence online is now a simple task.
Selling direct to customers allows you to make far higher margin on your products, but also gives you much better visibility of what the customer wants, enabling you to improve your products over time.
Digital marketing techniques give you several options to promote your business and your website:
Content marketing – i.e. writing a blog
Email marketing – Emailing direct to customers
Social media – Interacting with customers through Facebook, Twitter etc.
Paid ads – Using paid advertising platforms like Google AdWords
How to get started?
Most manufacturing companies don’t have the expertise in house to build or execute an effective manufacturing marketing strategy, or to make the shift to selling direct to retail.
The key steps to making this work
Find a partner – Partnering with a third party like AsOne will allow you to hit the ground running. You’ll gain immediate inside knowledge of what works and what doesn’t from people who have done it before. You also won’t have to divert resource away from other projects and can leave them to focus on the things they are great at.
Start small – Marketing manufacturing and building an ecommerce offering needn’t be a huge investment. Modern technology development practices focus on starting small, testing the most important features and growing gradually over time. This allows you to gain confidence in your investment before deciding if you want to invest more.
Iterate – Using performance analytics and statistics you can quickly learn which elements of your strategy are working g and which aren’t. This enables you to evolve over time to target products at the most profitable segments of your customers and tweak your messages to appeal directly to them.
At AsOne we’ve been working with companies for nearly 2 decades, helping to bring their businesses online and craft innovative marketing strategies.
We look to partner with our clients over the long term, learning the details that make their business run and applying our expertise to help them continually grow.
Launching paid ads with networks like Google and Facebook
Building relationships with influential personalities and businesses within your target niche.
As outlined above, using these techniques in parallel will have the greatest impact, as you can launch a campaign that targets customers from multiple angles leading to greater visibility and conversion.
Execution is not a one-off activity, but something that should be looked at continually based on customer feedback and analytics (see below). Optimisation
Embedding analytics into your campaigns allows you to precisely track what is working and what isn’t. Analytics have evolved and now provide detailed reports showing how customers have interacted with your marketing solutions, right down to the level of how many people click on a specific link or how long they spend on each page.
This is vital information that can be fed back into the execution activities, making continual improvements to your campaigns. This is hugely beneficial in terms of improving the performance of your marketing efforts, but also controlling the costs, by stopping things that are not having the anticipated impact.
Leveraging Expert Advice
Successfully bringing together these three elements into a cohesive digital marketing strategy is not something that should be taken for granted. For most companies, it is preferable to bring in expert advice to help manage this process.
At AsOne, our approach has always been to work in close partnership with our clients to help them build digital marketing solutions tailored to their specific need.
If you’d like some guidance on the marketing solutions that are most suitable for your business, don’t hesitate to get in touch.
Comments Off on Strategic Planning for Future Success
It goes without saying that new business development is a vitally important aspect of any thriving business. However, it is easy to become overly focused on servicing your existing customers and fulfilling outstanding contracts, and therefore lose sight of where your next customers will be coming from.
Further, business development often requires a different set of skills to be successful, compared to other aspects of running a business and some managers find they are not naturally suited to this.
In the absence of large internal sales teams, many companies are looking to harness the expertise of external business development specialists to help them continue to grow.
Keeping the focus on business development
Long-term growth relies on a constant stream of new prospective clients, which is only achieved through concerted business development efforts. There are several key benefits of focused and dedicated business development efforts:
Maintain your momentum – Spending time engaging with new clients and listening to their concerns and demands is a great way to keep your business fresh. An external perspective on your products and services gives you valuable information that you can use to refine and improve your business.
Focus your efforts – By working with an external partner on new business development you can focus your attention on the parts of the business you’re great at and that you enjoy.
Create a stable foundation – Looking at new business development on an ongoing basis ensures that you have regular inflows of revenue. This creates a stable platform for your business, gives you confidence that you’ll be profitable, and creates the funds necessary to invest in other new initiatives.
Strategic planning – Planning in itself is useful as it gives your business a vision and direction to work towards which in turn can help to motivate your employees. It is also important to have forecasts and projections if you are looking to secure investment or a loan.
In today’s hyper-competitive business landscape, nothing stays still for long, so it is vital that new business development and strategic planning is something you give sufficient attention to ensure the long-term viability of your company.
Most people are familiar with stories of how Blockbuster Video was gradually pushed to bankruptcy by failing to identify and adapt to the shift to streaming video. And there are countless other examples of companies that failed to adapt.
Keeping a pulse of how your market is changing, dedicating enough investment to new business development, and looking for innovative ways to increase revenue will prevent your business from succumbing to the same fate.
At AsOne we partner with our clients to help fuel their long-term growth. We create digital business development strategies that enable them to drive maximise value from their existing clients and help them identify new ones.
We pride ourselves on being an ideas agency and find creative ways to help our customers stand out from the competition.
If you’d like advice on how to grow your business, and see the value in creating strategic new business development plans, don’t hesitate to get in touch.
Comments Off on How to Increase Direct Hotel Booking
The internet completely revolutionised the travel and tourism industry, displacing high street travel agents and forever changing the way people interact with direct hotel booking and flight booking.
But some hotel operators have become overly reliant on online travel agents and have dialled back their investment in marketing and sales. This has given them less control over occupancy and increased the commission’s costs which affect the profitability of the hotels.
However, over the past few years, marketing methods have evolved to a point where hotels can start to take greater control over their business development, enabling them to achieve maximum occupancy without paying high commissions.
Marketing techniques to increase direct hotel booking
These days, digital marketing channels are a vitally important part of promoting your business.
SEO / Content Marketing – By writing relevant content on your website or blog and doing appropriate search engine optimisation (SEO), you can ensure that your hotel appears near the top of the search results for your target keywords. This will ensure that your hotel gets visibility, but it also gives you a really good chance to share the personality of your hotel.
Email marketing campaigns – Email is a great way to stay in touch with previous guests, letting them know about upcoming promotions and inviting them back for another stay. By understanding customers’ likes and preferences, you can even target them with promotions specifically tailored to their demographic.
You have the opportunity to talk directly to your customer base, sharing pictures and comments and responding to their queries in a visible and transparent way.
You, guests, can share their experiences with their friends and family, becoming advocates for your brand
You can use social media advertising to serve ads to your specific target audience.
All of this starts with understanding your market and your unique place in it. With your typical online travel agent, your hotel will simply be listed alongside many others and ranked most likely on price or proximity.
When you take control of your own marketing messages, you can focus a lot more on how you want your brand to come across and who you want to speak to. Having a clear vision of your ideal customer in mind will help you to tailor your communications to them, which will, in turn, improve your click through, conversion rates and direct hotel bookings!
Targeting a relevant niche is also far more cost-effective than looking broadly at anyone in need of a hotel stay.
Finding a Partner to Help your Hotel Thrive
At AsOne, we specialise in building holistic digital business development strategies to help businesses thrive. While we have worked with many brands in the travel industry and understand the nuances of this space, we also have experience working with clients across many different industries and can bring innovative fresh ideas to help your business grow.
We look to partner with our clients over the long-term, getting to know the ins and outs of how they operate and what they aspire to, this makes us uniquely placed to design marketing solutions that exactly match our clients’ goals.
If you’d like more information on how we can help you increase direct hotel booking, don’t hesitate to get in touch and we’ll arrange a time to talk you through the various options.
Comments Off on Is your GDPR strategy up to scratch?
The deadline for compliance with the new general data protection regulation is fast approaching, and companies that aren’t compliant by 25th May will face steep fines. The new rules are much stricter on how companies source, store and use sensitive customer data, so it is essential that you have a watertight GDPR strategy that addresses these points.
Questions to frame your GDPR strategy
Getting ready for GDPR may seem like an overwhelming task, but by breaking it down into various components it becomes more manageable.
The following questions can be used as a framework to help you start articulating your GDPR strategy.
What data do you currently hold? – A thorough inventory of the data you currently hold to identify whether any of it can be classed as ‘personally identifiable information’ is a logical first step. This is the data that will be under more scrutiny from the new regulations.
Where is that data stored? – The rules stipulate that data must be securely stored, so you should examine the suitability of your current data storage solutions and consider alternatives if necessary.
What do you use that data for? – The ways in which data is used is also very important, so you customers understand what their data is being used for?
How did you get consent for that data? – GDPR puts control of data back into the hands of the customer so you need to be doubly sure that you obtained the correct permissions to use it.
How will you ask for consent in the future? – it is likely that your policies will need to be updated to make it really clear to customers that you require access to their data, and to spell out to them exactly what you plan to use it for.
Do you need a data protection officer? – Some organisations require a designated DPO as part of the new rules, you should check whether this applies to you and go about appointing, or hiring this person.
How will you handle subject access requests? – The new rules allow customers to request access to the data that you hold on them, you will need to consider how best to do this in a cost-effective way
Getting help with your GDPR strategy
With the complicated nature of GDPR and the harsh penalties for lack of compliance, many companies are hiring external expertise to help shape their GDPR strategy.
At AsOne we have worked with companies across a range of industries to help them make the most of their data for over a decade. We view data as a core part of any digital business development strategy.
As such we also understand the intricacies of how that data should be sourced, stored and used in order to be fully compliant with various regulations and laws. If you have any further questions about GDPR and how it could impact your business, or you’d like to have a chat about how AsOne can help you craft an effective GDPR strategy, don’t hesitate to get in touch.
Comments Off on GDPR and Marketing: Everything you need to know
The General Data Protection Regulation, GDPR, comes into effect on May 25th, 2018, and represents the biggest change in data regulations in over two decades. GDPR and marketing go hand in hand, as data has become an increasingly important part of digital marketing initiatives over the past few years.
You may have already seen email communications from companies letting you know that they are making changes to their policies to ensure that they are compliant with these new regulations.
At its core, GDPR is about wrestling control of data from large corporations and giving it back to consumers. But GDPR is far-reaching and will force companies to be proactive about how they manage customer data in many areas. They will have to take responsibility for the data they already hold and be meticulous in how they request access to data in the future.
Much more specific about having the right consent for data and the right to process it
A requirement to report data breaches promptly
Consumers have the right to see the data that you hold on them via subject access requests
The regulation will also make it much easier for a consumer to move data from one service provider to another
Companies that fail to address GDPR will face significant penalties of up to 4% of global turnover, or €20m, whichever is greater.
Understanding what you need to do for compliance
It is important that business’ are thinking about GDPR and marketing teams understand the impact it could have on how they interact with customers. Some of the things you should already be thinking about are:
What data do you already hold on your customers? How did you gain consent for this data and are you only using for those purposes?
How easy is it for customers to request access to their data, and how easily could you get it back to them?
Do your employees understand the new GDPR rules, and is there a clear process to report a data breach?
Who in your organisation is responsible for GDPR? Some companies will need to appoint a Data Protection Officer.
Proactively addressing these questions now will put you in good stead, and help avoid awkward conversations with regulators.
Are you GDPR ready?
With little over a month to go, companies should be well down the road of assessing what GDPR will mean to them.
At AsOne we are perfectly placed to help companies tackle concerns around GDPR and marketing. For over a decade we have been helping companies maximise the value of their marketing data, and have worked with them to ensure that data is stored safely and securely.
We believe that data will remain at the heart of company’s business development strategies, but they will now have to be more sensitive to the demands of the public when it comes to its use.
If you’re worried about the introduction of GDPR and want to understand the implications for your business, don’t hesitate to get in touch.
Comments Off on Building Effective Marketing Partnerships to Accelerate your Growth
Most companies reach a point in their evolution where it makes sense to bring in external expertise to help drive future growth and develop marketing partnerships.
This can happen in a variety of different guises such as:
Growth has stalled and you’re looking for ideas to reignite your momentum
Growth is steady but slow, and you want to reinvest to accelerate your progress
You’re looking to expand into unfamiliar markets and want support to make sure you hit the ground running
In each of these scenarios, a pair of fresh eyes and an external opinion can be vitally important to guide your business to the next stage.
Using marketing partnerships to fuel future success
At this juncture, forging marketing partnerships with external agencies can be extremely effective. Rather than trying to solve these challenges yourself, you can partner with experts to craft a digital business development strategy that will fuel your long-term growth.
This approach has many benefits:
Focus on what you’re great at – Rather than spending time learning about the various methods of digital marketing that could provide the business with the boost you need, partnering with an external agency allows you to focus on the things at the core of your business. This ensures that you focus your energies where you can add the most value, and outsource the activities where eternal expertise will give you the greater benefit.
Leverage external expertise – Marketing partnerships enable to leverage the depth of expertise of industry experts. Not only will you get the benefits right from your first engagement, but you’ll have the added impact of learning about what works across different industries and areas.
Hit the ground running – If you’re in a rush to turn your business around, or hit aggressive sales targets, using an external marketing partner will enable you to get moving quickly. You won’t have a lengthy exploration of the methods that could be most appropriate to you, and the best ways to implement, you’ll have first-hand expertise from people who have seen it and done it before.
Test and learn – By partnering with someone over the long-term you have the opportunity to experiment with different approaches, building on your previous successes, and learning from unsuccessful initiatives. At AsOne we build up an intimate knowledge of our client’s businesses, which means we don’t have to start from a blank piece of paper each time.
For over 15 years AsOne has been forging strategic marketing partnerships with companies across a wide range of industries. These mutually beneficial relationships focus on tackling tough business challenges that drive companies forward.
Our award-winning approach involves partnering with companies over the long-term, gaining a thorough understanding of their business, and working together to get the best results.

Comments Off on Maximising the Value of Your Marketing Data
Over the past few years, data has rightfully earned its reputation as “the new oil” as companies look increasingly to hard numbers and analytics to make more informed business decisions. Marketing data, in particular, has changed the way businesses operate, giving them a much clearer picture of which marketing activities are successful and which are not.
There is now more data available than ever before, for example:
Site Analytics – There are a number of tools that will very accurately tell you exactly how users are interacting with your website or app. This includes the number of hits, geographic locations, time on page and which elements of the page they are looking at or clicking on. Search Console data from Google will also show you the exact terms that your rank for in Google and how often you appear in the search results.
Social media – Social media is a rich source of user data, and there is an increasing range of tools available to help companies make sense of it. For example, companies are able to use AI to automatically understand public sentiment towards them on site such as Twitter.
Email – Email in itself is perhaps not that useful as a source of marketing data, but you can use it as a valuable reference point in a CRM system to track your interactions with customers.
Overlaying these data sources with your sales data can make it incredibly valuable, giving you a very clear picture of the types of prospects that tend to convert to paying customers, and the optimal journeys that these customers tend to take.
This data can be used for a number of specific purposes including:
Personalisation – Serve customers a customised experience based on the data that you hold on them. For example people that land on the site via a particular channel or ad might convert better with a particular landing page compared to customers who find your site through a different channel.
Serve more highly targeted ads – If you know exactly where you customers are coming from and which cohort of prospect convert best, you can focus your marketing spend on those specific types of people. That might include using Facebook ads to target a very specific group of users with a high chance of converting.
While there is an ever-increasing volume of data available, the rules and regulations around its use are also becoming more stringent and complex. The General Data Protection Regulation that comes into effect in May 2018 aims to put more control back into the hands of the consumer and will more strictly punish companies who misuse data.
How to start making your data work for you
As an award-winning digital agency, AsOne has long understood the value of marketing data. We’ve worked closely with companies from a wide range of industries to track and maximise the value of their campaigns using this valuable information.
For more information on how you can unlock the value of your data, don’t hesitate to get in touch and speak to one of our experts.

Comments Off on The Digital Agency, Cheshire Always Wanted
The Digital Agency Cheshire Always Wanted AsOne has been providing digital marketing services in the Cheshire, Tameside and Manchester areas for over a decade.
When we launched as a digital agency Cheshire presented the perfect opportunity for us, with ambitious businesses looking to improve and scale.
Our specific knowledge of the Cheshire area, coupled with our expertise in digital marketing makes us uniquely suited to helping local businesses grow. This applies equally to whether they want to market more effectively locally or expand nationally and internationally. Some of the important factors we consider include:
Third party reviews – Businesses can no longer get away with delivering sub-par products or services, as third-party reviews enable people to leave honest feedback on their experiences. This is great news for high performing companies, as you can build up a repository of happy customers saying great things about you. Integrating these into your own site only make other potential customers more likely to make a purchase.
Google maps integration – If you’re promoting your business locally, it is possible that people will want to see where you are based, or find out how to get to your premises. Integrating Google maps with your site is a great way to do this. You also want to be sure that your business appears on Google maps search results. There are lots more advanced things that you can do with maps, such as using it to show which areas your business services.
Content creation – If you’re trying to engage your local audience, writing directly to them is a sure way to do this. This requires knowledge of the local demographics as well as local news and events. Content marketing is also an effective way to improve your visibility in search engines, which will help to promote your business further afield.
Social media – channels such as Facebook and Twitter are brilliant for engaging directly with your customers. You can use social media to share regular updates on your business, including offers and voucher codes, but also to respond directly to customer queries. This works particularly well when targeting customers in a specific area, as people will see when their friends and family interact with your brand.
This just a small subset of the tools in a digital marketer’s arsenal, which can be used to help make your business goals reality.
At AsOne we try to approach this holistically, viewing digital marketing as a component of a joined-up digital business strategy. The digital agency Cheshire deserves

Comments Off on A Creative Agency Manchester Businesses Can be Proud Of.
In an increasingly competitive business environment, creativity can be the key to making your business stand out from the crowd. But creativity doesn’t always come easily, so engaging a creative agency can help to build a brand that you, and more importantly your customers, will love.
Manchester has always been a hive of culture and creativity and remains to this day an important base for many media, design and technology companies. Manchester is also an important commercial centre for the UK, hosting regional and national headquarters for many household brands.
It makes sense then that Manchester was the birthplace of our award-winning Creative Agency.
Creative agency, innovative ideas
Where a standard print, or web development company will be able to build marketing assets, a creative agency has the abilities to craft unique and engaging artefacts that stand out from the masses. This could include:
Logo design – The logo is a key element that you need to perfect to convey the right tone for your brand. A powerful logo will help with brand recognition and will be identifiable without any other words or explanation needed.
Web design – Web design is becoming increasingly important in modern business. Custom graphics and design ensure that your business looks modern and professional and helps to convert site visitors into paying customers. As your shop front to the world, investing in a high performing website can be the difference between success and failure for your business.
Web graphics – As social media has become an almost essential marketing channel, creating engaging content that users want to share have become really valuable. Custom images and web graphics can help you achieve this.
Print – Though a large proportion of marketing spend has shifted to online, there is still a place for traditional print advertising, whether in magazines or billboards.
Signage – If you have a physical store you’ll need graphics and signage that explains clearly what your business does and draws customers in.
A creative agency can help you build a strategy that looks across all these elements, creating a consistent style in everything from your website, through to your letterheads and your business cards. No matter what you’re looking for from a creative agency Manchester has the skills and expertise to meets your requests.

Comments Off on Digital Marketing Cheshire Based Businesses
Digital marketing has grown to become the de facto first step that modern companies take to help promote their products and services and increase their sales.
Cheshire is a hive of economic activity, playing host to the manufacturing facilities of many well- known aviation and automotive brands, and it also benefits from close proximity to Liverpool and Manchester.
For Cheshire based businesses looking to expand, digital marketing could hold the key.
And if you’re interested in exploring digital marketing Cheshire has everything you need an award-winning agency, AsOne.
Digital marketing covers a broad range of activities, all designed to help promote your business online, and ultimately increase sales. This could include:
Web development – At the core or digital marketing is web development. Increasingly people talk about a “mobile first” strategy, building with smartphones in mind to cater for the largest proportion of your audience. Development can also extend to function beyond a standard site, such as automatic quotation tools, or online appointment scheduling.
Website promotion – Building a slick website is worthless unless people see it, a point that many people overlook. It is essential that you also invest in generating traffic to your site. There are many methods that can be used, including content marketing and search engine optimisation, or paid ads through platforms like Google Adwords.
Social Media – While social media could fall under the banner of website promotion, it has grown substantially enough to warrant further explanation in its own right. Social media is an excellent way not only to promote your business, but to have real conversations with customers. Engaging with customers in this way makes your business approachable, and provides invaluable feedback that can help you make future strategic decisions.
Video – Online video is becoming increasingly popular as a marketing channel, as more people have smartphones and 4G connections and are therefore able to stream content on the move. A video is a really good way of getting a point across to your audience in a really easily digestible way, and can, therefore, help to differentiate from your competition. This could include short explainer video, video blogs, or animation.
Though it is often said that your website is your shop window to the world, we recognise that when you’re looking for support with digital marketing Cheshire may still be your primary focus.
Local SEO, or search engine optimisation, requires a slightly more nuanced approach, which is greatly enhanced by knowledge of the local area. This can include things like getting properly set up on Google Maps, registering with local business directories and using third party reviews.
At AsOne we’ve been providing digital marketing services to Cheshire based businesses for over 16 years, and in that time we’ve built a wealth of knowledge on exactly what works and what doesn’t. If you’d like some advice on digital marketing in Cheshire, don’t hesitate to get in touch.
Comments Off on For Digital Marketing, Tameside Has Everything You Need
If you’ve taken the decision to grow your business, increasing awareness of your products and services through additional marketing is often the logical first step. This applies equally if you are looking to promote your business in the Tameside area, or even nationally and internationally.
Thankfully, you won’t have to look far for great advice, because when it comes to digital marketing Tameside has all the expertise you’ll need in award winning agency, AsOne.
What Does Digital Marketing Include?
The exact definition of what falls under digital marketing varies between agencies, but there are a set of core services that are typically included, all focusing on promoting your products online and on mobile.
Web design – This is typically the first place to start, if you don’t already have a website, you should make it a priority to get your business online. AsOne can help design and build a site that will be attractive to your prospective customers.
Mobile App Development – You may decide that you want to launch an app, either as part of a marketing campaign, or something that integrates more directly with your business, like a loyalty scheme. At AsOne, we have the technical development skills to build this for you.
Content marketing – Once you have a site live you need to think about how you promote it best to attract people to your site. Content marketing involves writing unique, insightful articles or blog posts that provide genuine value to your audience and keep them coming back to your pages. This can be a huge drain on time, particularly for smaller companies, but thankfully this is something that we provide as a core service to many of our customers.
SEO – Search Engine Optimisation involves organising your website and content in such a way to make it attractive to search engines like Google. If you can’t get to the front pages of Google you’ll get very little traffic, so having a technical knowledge of SEO is a very valuable skill.
Paid Ads – You can skip some of the troubles of SEO by using paid ads. This could include placement of your pages at the top of the Google Search results, or alternatively placing banner ads on other sites. Always seek professional advice from AsOne before undertaking a paid campaign.
Social Media – An increasingly important part of digital marketing is using sites like Facebook and Twitter to engage more directly with your customers. AsOne will manage this for you, posting regular updates and responding to customer questions.
Digital Marketing Tameside
AsOne has extensive expertise running digital marketing campaigns for businesses in the Tameside area. We like to partner with companies over the long-term, integrating marketing into a broader, more holistic digital business development strategy.
We understand the area, which is important if you want to promote your business locally, but we can also help you scale nationally without losing the values that got you where you are today.

Comments Off on Building a Dynamic Digital Marketing Plan
The internet and mobile technology have completely revolutionised the way businesses reach and interact with their customers. New channels such as search engine optimisation, paid ads, social media and email campaigns make it possible to run highly targeted campaigns to help your business prosper.
But with so many options available, it is more important than ever to build a digital marketing plan to ensure a consistent and joined up approach.
Crafting an effective Digital Marketing Plan
There are several things that you should keep in mind when you’re building your marketing plan, including:
Mirror your business KPIs – Start with thinking about what you want to achieve as a business, and work back from there to decide how digital marketing can support. Are you looking to improve brand awareness, increase repeat custom or reach a new market? Deciding this from the outset will influence which methods are most appropriate to market your business.
Go where your customers go – Digital marketing relies on a good understanding of your customer base, and doing some research upfront to understand your customer profiles will be time well spent. Armed with this understanding, you can target customers through the channels they are most likely to use, i.e. do they use Facebook over Twitter or Google over Bing? This will help to ensure the best return on investment for your spend.
The message is the medium – Your website acts as your storefront online and social profiles are an excellent touchpoint with your customers. These channels and any other digital marketing methods you use should reflect the style and tone of voice that you want to convey for your business. Underinvesting in your website might save you money up front but could lead to a loss of business if it is not to the level of quality that your customers expect.
Analyse and evolve – A marketing plan should never be a static document. Using reports from Google Analytics and other online tools, you can analyse the performance of your marketing campaigns and make changes to optimise them over time.
Partnering for Success
If your team doesn’t have experience creating a digital marketing plan, getting it right will be a real challenge and could lead to costly mistakes. Furthermore, it’d mean taking time and energy away from the things they do best on a day to day basis.
At AsOne, we work with a range of clients to build digital marketing plans that closely mirror their business growth targets. We have experience using the full range of marketing channels, from pay per click ads through to targeted email campaigns, and we partner with our clients over the long-term to build up a solid understanding of their brands and their industries.
Comments Off on Crafting International Marketing Strategies That Work
International expansion is a huge revenue opportunity for any business and is especially attractive where growth in the domestic market is saturated or has otherwise stalled. But international success does not come without its challenges and relies heavily on how well you can adapt your products, services and messaging to suit the local audience.
A great example of a company that has successfully adapted their strategy is McDonald’s. They have managed to keep an iconic brand, while at the same time altering their offering in different countries; like selling beer in France and removing beef and pork from restaurants in India.
So how can you adapt your marketing strategy to attract international business?
Factors underpinning successful International marketing strategies
Invest in research – You shouldn’t make assumptions about the market that you are trying to reach, they might think and act differently from your domestic market. Taking the time to invest in research will help you to understand the market better, for example, who are your local competitors and how do you compare? You can conduct research formally using an agency to run surveys, or if you are happy with a smaller sample you can speak directly to customers. Research is of vital importance to all International Marketing Strategies.
Don’t ignore culture – Following on from the point above, it is essential that you don’t overlook cultural differences with your target market, even countries that speak that same language can be very different culturally.
Get translation right – When you’re selling to the world, your website is your storefront and content is king. It is vital that you pay significant attention to detail to get translation right. Automated tools like Google Translate can help with this, but often miss the colloquialisms that make language sound natural and authentic. You should also consider simple things like how your brand name translates into another language.
Respect Regulation – Laws around data protection and how you advertise and market to people are different in different jurisdictions. Don’t fall foul of the local law and get your business in trouble just as you are getting started. Seeking legal counsel from someone with knowledge of your specific target markets will be a big help.
Technology – Different countries will have different levels of technological sophistication. This could mean slower internet speeds and lower quality phones. You may need to think about how you can serve a stripped down version of your site to these markets in order to keep a high level of customer experience.
Finding a partner to take you to the next level
Growing pains that come with expanding internationally are natural for any successful organisation. We have worked with many companies to develop and execute international marketing strategies that help achieve their business goals.
Our work has spanned everything from looking at local SEO factors to ensure that sites rank well in the target markets, through to working with native language translators to ensure that the messaging will resonate with the target audience.
If you’d like more information on how this could work for you, don’t hesitate to get in touch.
Comments Off on Implementing Bing SEO to Boost your Traffic
When it comes to SEO, most people focus exclusively on Google at the expense of everything else. While there is some merit in this approach given that by most estimates Google commands over 75% of global search traffic, focusing only on Google can mean that you’re missing some important demographics, and ignoring 25% of potential customers. By understanding the ranking factors used in other search engines, such as Bing, you can rank well on multiple search engines for the same key terms.
Why Bing SEO?
Here are some key reasons you should consider implementing a Bing SEO strategy:
Reach a different demographic – Research has shown that Bing attracts a different demographic to Google search. Bing users tend to be older, more likely to be married and have a higher average household income. Depending on your target audience you may even be better off switching your focus to Bing SEO instead of Google. Less competitive – Google SEO is incredibly competitive. Due to the large proportion of market share that Google commands, and the fact that people focus most attention on it, it can be incredibly hard to get to the first page for certain search phrases. By comparison, Bing is seen to be less competitive for both organic and paid search.
There are simple steps to take – Bing SEO needn’t mean rewriting your entire site. Making small tweaks to your content can have a significant impact on your position in the search rankings. See the ranking factors below for some suggestions.
Google vs Bing SEO The majority of the ranking factors used across both search engines are the same, however, they are given slightly different weightings, for example:
Social signals – There is some evidence that Bing gives greater preference to sites and pages that exhibit strong social signals such as “likes” and “shares”.
Links – Both Google and Bing rely heavily on backlinks as a key ranking factor. Bing, however, will actively remove pages that aren’t deemed to have enough link authority. This means that for your page to rank at all, you’ll need to get some high-quality links.
Content – Google relies heavily on the quality of the written content on the page, rewarding content that is highly relevant to the context of the search query. Bing on the other hand rewards other types of content such as images and embedded video.
Implementing Bing SEO At AsOne we manage SEO campaigns across all the major search engines and have deep working knowledge of the technical requirements of each. We work with clients to understand which marketing channels are most relevant to them, and if we decide that Bing SEO is important we’ll conduct an audit of existing content to see how it can be adapted to rank better on Bing. We’ll also ensure that the site and all relevant pages are indexed by Bing Webmaster Tools. Going forward we can track the performance of content in Bing, constantly optimising pages to perform better. If you’d like to hear more about Bing SEO and how it could help your business, don’t hesitate to get in touch.
Comments Off on How a Social Media Campaign can boost your SEO Performance
Social media has proved to be a powerful marketing channel in its own right, but a successful social media campaign can also have a knock-on effect, positively impacting your acquisition via other channels, particularly search engines.
Interacting with customers through social media is an excellent way for businesses to have conversations in a manner and tone of voice that is unique to their brand. Building up this brand image is important for SEO in itself, and can lead to more people searching directly for your company on Google or Bing.
Considering social media SEO and other marketing methods in parallel is an effective way to boost the success of your campaigns.
Social Media SEO and the Power of Combining Them
An active presence on social media can have a significant, positive impact on your search engine rankings due to a number of key elements:
Ranking factor – Social signals (such as “shares” and “likes”) have been a ranking signal for some time, which means it is included in the algorithm that Google uses to calculate where your page should appear in the rankings. Hence, a stronger social following should help to boost your SEO. This is particularly true given that people who find your content through social channels are more likely to share it.
Direct links – The number and variety of backlinks you get to your site remains one of the primary factors that Google uses to determine search engines results. Posting regularly to platforms such as Facebook and Twitter, with links back to content on your own site, gives you an easy way to build up a number of backlinks, each of which will individually give your SEO performance a small boost.
Indirect links – One of the most important things that arise from overlaying your social media and content marketing strategies is the opportunity to get natural backlinks from other sources. People who find your content in one channel may link to it from another, such as in their own blog posts. This will help to ensure you get a good variety of referring domains.
Content ideas – Having an audience means you can see what people are interested in and talking about. This is a really valuable source of content ideas and ensuring you’re writing great relevant content is a key to a successful SEO strategy. Though other factors have come into play, content is still king. You can also use this technique to optimise existing content, updating and editing it to reflect the comments and feedback of your followers.

We are increasingly creating campaigns that span across social media SEO and other channels to deliver the best possible results. Looking across channels from the outset helps you to identify synergies that will ensure you get the maximum return on your investment.

Comments Off on How to Improve your Google Reviews
Online reviews have become an increasingly important part of the buying process for many products and services. Before purchasing, customers will look online to find honest opinions from other people who have used the product and will take all this information into consideration.
Having a good number of Google reviews can give your business a serious boost, as it provides social proof and credibility. Further to this, there is evidence that Google takes reviews into account as a ranking factor, which determines how well your product pages rank.
So how do you go about improving your Google Reviews?
There are a number of key steps you can take to encourage your customers to leave reviews:
Ask them – As simple as it sounds, an important step towards getting more reviews is to ask your customers. This is something you can include on the confirmation page at the point of sale, or in the email receipt.
Follow up – You often have to show persistence to make a sale in the first place, and the same goes for getting reviews. While you might not get a review straight away, it is worth sending a follow-up note one the customer has had the chance to use the product or service for a period of time.
Make it really easy – Asking too much of your customers, or any obstacles that stand in their way will seriously hamper your chance of getting a review. Make it as simple as possible for people to leave a review. Give them a link to the review page, and educate them as to exactly how to navigate the page.
Be personable – Creating a brand that people can relate to and like makes them far more likely to leave positive reviews. Being personable, and interacting with your customers through social media channels will make lead to your customers actively championing your products.
Turning around a negative review
It goes without saying that to get positive reviews, you need customers to have a positive experience with your product or service. This might not be possible 100% of the time, and occasionally you will get feedback from your customers that aren’t in line with what you were expecting.
Rather than seeing this as a negative, you can use these reviews as an excellent source of research. Even if you don’t necessarily agree with what the customer has said if they perceive that their experience wasn’t up to scratch you should take their points on board.
Listen to what they’ve said, and look at how you can make improvements to avoid other customers feeling this way in the future.
Start improving your reviews today
Improving reviews needs to be a concerted effort and something that you focus on over a sustained period of time. It is also not something that is easily tackled in isolation and benefits from inclusion in a broader digital business development strategy.
At AsOne we have experience managing this effort on behalf of our clients, dramatically improving the number of positive reviews they receive, and subsequently boosting their top line growth.
For more information on how we could support your business through this journey, don’t hesitate to get in touch.
From humble beginnings in a Harvard dorm room in 2003, Facebook has grown to become a global phenomenon, and one of Silicon Valley’s tech giants alongside the likes of Google and Apple.
Facebook currently has around 2 billion monthly active users, which equates to roughly a quarter of the world’s population! This makes your Facebook Marketing Strategy so important in your wider business strategy. That staggering growth has created an incredible marketing opportunity for businesses to reach their target audience in a way that was previously unimaginable. Paid ads through Facebook leverage the personal information that people upload to their profiles to ensure that you speak directly to people that are most likely to have an interest in your products and services.
The Benefits of Implementing a Facebook Marketing Strategy
Facebook marketing offers several key benefits over other marketing channels, including:
Cost Effective – Many of the features of Facebook are free to use and simply require an investment of time to make them a success. Paid ads through Facebook offer an excellent ROI due to the fact that you can be sure that you are targeting the right audience.
Big Data – Paid advertising through Facebook gives you access to a vast array of demographic data, meaning that you can target your ads to incredibly niche audiences in a way that is virtually impossible on any other platform.
Familiarity – As most people use Facebook on a fairly regular basis, it is a way to reach customers through a channel they are already using and familiar with.
Informal conversations – Having a presence on Facebook can help to humanise your brand, enabling you to interact with your customers in an informal, conversational way.
SEO – “Shares” and “likes” are now recognised as a ranking factor by search engines, meaning that promoting your content through social media will also improve your ranking.
Community – Facebook allows you to create groups that your customers can join. Building a community of users creates social proof, which will help to improve the conversion rate on your ads.
Facebook Marketing Strategy Challenges
Marketing through Facebook isn’t without difficulty. To get the most from the platform and stay at the forefront of your customer’s minds you have to post new content regularly. Also if you decide to use Facebook as a two-way communication channel with your customers, you have to dedicate the time required to respond promptly, and for a small company, this can be a drain on resources.
Finding a Social Media Partner
If you’re serious about implementing a Facebook marketing strategy, partnering with an agency that has a proven track record in this area can dramatically accelerate your success.
At AsOne, we’ve built up extensive experience in social media, running campaigns for a number of our clients.
If you’d like more information on how a Facebook marketing strategy could help your business to grow, don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Comments Off on Who Uses Bing? And Could Bing Help to Boost Your Business?
While the vast majority of global search traffic still goes through Google, there are a handful of other active search engines that receive significant volumes. For example, Bing, the search engine owned by Microsoft, actually controls around 25% of the market share in the UK, with over 900 million monthly searches performed.
While most people’s first instinct is to turn to Google when looking to promote their business, our experience has shown that in fact, some types of businesses would be better suited to explore Bing.
Advantages of Bing
Bing has a couple of important advantages that are sometimes forgotten when people start out with digital marketing.
Firstly, as it gets much less of the search traffic it is often overlooked and therefore less competitive. This makes it easier to rank highly in the organic results, and cheaper to place paid ads.
Secondly, the user demographic of Bing is slightly different to other search engines, meaning it may be a better and more cost-effective way to reach your specific target market.
Understanding who uses Bing is the first step to working out whether it could be an appropriate platform to help promote your business.
Differences in Demographic
As mentioned, there are several key differences in the user demographics of Bing, which in turn make it more attractive as an advertising platform for some industries over others. In particular:
Age – Bing users are typically older than Google users
Family status – Bing users are more likely to be married with children
Income – Bing users have a high average household income
As a result of these traits, many marketers and businesses have found that they get higher conversation rates from Bing users than other traffic sources.
Research suggests that adverts from industries that appeal to this demographic fare particularly well, such as:
Employment or Career services
Finance & Insurance
Apparel & Accessories
If your product or service is targeted at the more mature end of the market, with higher disposable income, then it is highly likely that you would benefit from exploring Bing as a channel to promote your business.
How does Bing fit into your overall marketing strategy?
While Bing undoubtedly can offer big benefits to certain specific industries or businesses looking to reach particular demographics, it is sensible to consider your use of Bing advertising in context with the rest of your marketing plan.
For instance, will you focus solely on Bing ads, or split your resources across Google, or social media outlets as well?
At AsOne we have a wealth of experience building holistic digital business development strategies that look at all the available options to find the best outcome for your business.
If you’d like more information on whether Bing could be a good channel to help promote your business, don’t hesitate to get in touch.
Comments Off on Bing Ads Vs Google Ads – What’s the right choice for your business?
Paid ads are an excellent way to quickly drive traffic to your site for specific target keywords. Even if you already rank highly in the organic search results, there is a benefit to ensuring that you also occupy the top paid spots to stop your competitors appearing above you in the listings.
With Google known to be the market leader in this space and controlling the majority of search traffic, there is a natural tendency for people to focus on Google AdWords campaigns.
However, many businesses are missing a huge potential audience by ignoring other search engines like Bing and would benefit from taking a step back and making a more thorough assessment of Bing ads vs Google ads.
While there are many similarities in the ways the two advertising platforms work, some of the primary differences include:
Search volume – Though the precise figure is unknown, estimates suggest that Google gets over 65% of the current search engine traffic, with Bing getting around 25-30%. This means that there are a lot more people looking at the ads on Google compared to Bing.
CPC – With lower search volume, Bing is generally seen as a less competitive advertising platform, and therefore the price of keywords doesn’t get inflated to the same extent as Google. This results in a lower CPC for ads, and ultimately a higher ROI on your campaign.
Demographics – This is one of the interesting areas where businesses can benefit from assessing the different platforms. There are subtle differences in the users of each, and therefore one may be more suitable to reach your target market than the other. For example, Bing users are typically older than Google users on average. Understanding the differences in demographics and lining this up with your ideal customers will help to improve the performance of your campaigns.
Analyse and adjust
While the above points are widely viewed as correct, it is also true that the performance of Bing ads Vs Google ads will vary by industry and geography, and there is often no clear-cut “winner”. It is therefore important that you test multiple ads on the different platforms to see which works best for your business.
Finding the message that resonates best with the audience is the key to optimising your advertising spend, and the best way to do that it through experimentation.
Similarly, it is important that you review this strategy over time as search volumes and cost per clicks change. While AdWords may perform better for a certain keyword today, Bing may perform better in a few weeks’ time.
Partnering for success
Deciding on Bing ads vs. Google ads is something that you can look at on two levels of thought. At the longer-term strategic level, you should consider which search engine most closely matches the profile of your preferred customers, which should help to improve click through and conversion.
At a more tactical level, you can run shorter-term campaigns, deciding which platform to use based on search volumes and suggested a bid for very specific keywords.
At AsOne we have the experience of working with both platforms and are well placed to advise on which will work best for your business. We also have the capability to manage the ongoing performance of the campaigns, tracking which ads are performing best, and using this information to optimise future campaigns.
If you’d like some guidance on which platform is right for you, or how you can use a combination for maximum impact, don’t hesitate to get in touch.
Comments Off on Perfecting your eCommerce User Experience
User experience (UX) design has become really important over the last ten years, with established online companies hiring large teams to focus on this seemingly small part of ecommerce website design.
This is due to the fact that UX can actually turn out to be the determining factor in your businesses success. Designing and regularly updating your site with ecommerce user experience at the forefront of your mind is an excellent way to improve customer satisfaction, conversion and ultimately profitability.
But what exactly does UX cover?
Understanding User Experience
UX is a broad concept that covers many aspects of web design and development. At its heart, it is all about looking at the site from the customer’s perspective, and making it as simple to use and user-friendly as possible. Commercially, it can also be used to influence customer behaviour on the site, and steer them towards certain products over others.
Influencing customer behaviour on the site can ultimately help you to increase upsells, resulting in higher profitability.
Some of the core concepts include:
Understanding customer psychology – Even before you get into the specifics of on page design, thinking about what the customer is looking for when they land on the page will help to create a positive user experience from the very outset.
Calls to actions – Creating buttons, or clear links to help customers navigate through the site is an excellent way to streamline user journeys and steer customers towards the pages you want them to see.
Page load speeds – Highlighting the fact that UX is about more than just the visual elements of the site, other factors such as load speeds also contribute significantly to customer’s experience.
Data and analytics are also a really important part. Having hard numbers that tell you how customers interact with different elements of the site allows you to gradually evolve and improve. Equally, it is sometimes important to put the data to one side and engage with real customers as they use the site. This qualitative feedback can be really useful for spotting issues with the ecommerce user experience.
Ecommerce User Experience Expertise
You may not be ready to invest in hiring a full-time UX designer for your company, but you can expect to achieve these benefits by partnering with an ecommerce agency that has the technical knowledge and experience to deliver to the same high standard.
One of the key benefits of working with someone like AsOne to improve the user experience of your site is that we have the depth of knowledge gained from doing this work with clients across a whole range of industries. We know what works and what doesn’t. Like all agencies that provide specialist ecommerce solutions, we make it our business to keep up to date with the changing landscape of user experience (UX) design bringing this breadth of knowledge and experience to our clients.

We have recently received the following notice from Google regarding a Google reCAPTCHA update. As of March 31st 2018, Google will be turning reCAPTCHA v1 off on all websites that still use it and have not updated or changed.
What is Google reCAPTCHA?
reCAPTCHA is a service from Google that helps protect websites from spam and abuse. A “CAPTCHA” (Completely Automated Public Turing Test To Tell Computers and Humans Apart) is a test check to see if a human or a “bot” is filling in a form. It is easy for humans to solve, but hard for “bots” and other malicious software to figure out. It usually takes the form of squiggly letters or numbers that are quite hard to read.
How do I know if I am using version one?
Version one reCAPTCHA usually looks like the image below
If your site uses this version or any version that requires the entry of letter or numbers, then you need to think about updating to version two. If you do not know or are unsure whether your website is currently using version one of reCAPTCHA and would like to know whether you will be affected we can check this for you and inform you. To arrange for this check to be done please contact our team on 0161 368 9100.
What should I do?
If your website is currently using version 1 of Google reCAPTCHA and you would like information on updating to a newer simplified, secure and supported model please do not hesitate to contact our team on 0161 368 9100 and they will be happy to help.
You are receiving this email because you are registered as a website administrator using Google reCAPTCHA, and your website is still using Google reCAPTCHA v1, which will be turned off on March 31, 2018.
We announced the Google reCAPTCHA v1 deprecation in May 2016. Starting in November 2017, a small percentage of reCAPTCHA v1 traffic will begin to show a notice informing users that the old API will soon be retired. Any calls to the v1 API will not work after March 31, 2018.
To ensure continued functionality, you’ll need to update your website to a current version of reCAPTCHA. You can learn more about reCAPTCHA v2, Invisible reCAPTCHA and reCAPTCHA Android API in our Developer’s Guide. The new APIs are simple to implement and will streamline the captcha experience for your users. If you need help, you can engage in the reCAPTCHA Google Developer Group or post to Stack Overflow with the ‘recaptcha’ tag.
We hope that your upgrade will be seamless, and we’re confident you’ll be happy with the results.

Comments Off on Take the Fast Track to Success with an eCommerce Agency
If you’re serious about making a success of your ecommerce business, partnering with a specialist ecommerce agency is an excellent way to accelerate your progress.
By leveraging their industry expertise you can avoid common pitfalls, allowing you to get your site in front of customers and generating revenue in the shortest amount of time. This will also allow you to focus your time and energy on the elements of the business that you do best.
End to End Agency Support
An ecommerce Agency like AsOne will be able to help you with all aspects of your ecommerce business, right from initial ideation through to expanding your audience and optimising customer journeys.
This will include:
Web design – Great design starts by listening closely to what it is that you are looking to achieve, then providing advice and guidance as to the features, functionality and style of site that you’ll need. This could include wireframes or graphics of what the final site will look like, or more technical diagrams of how the back end architecture will work.
Website development – Having finalised designs, the next stage is to implement them. An end to end agency will have the capability to do the web development in house, taking the designs and turning them into a working site. This will also include extensive testing to ensure that all functionality is working well before it gets launched to your customers.
Security – Protecting your data and that of your customers is a vital part of running an ecommerce business. This starts from the design phase, but should also include continuous monitoring for security breaches, and to adopt the latest security best practices.
User experience – Once you have customers using the site, you will be able to start making optimisations that will increase conversation rates and ultimately profitability. By forming an ongoing relationship with an ecommerce agency, they will be able to monitor your site analytics and look at where these types of improvements can be made. This usually involves a “test and iterate” approach, where multiple variations of designs are tested to see which has the most positive outcome.
Aligning to a Broader Strategy
All web design and development work should be viewed in the context of your wider digital business development strategy. An ecommerce agency will help you to look holistically at everything from which sectors of the market you want to target, to the payment methods you accept, and the upsell strategies you choose to employ.
At AsOne, we work closely with our clients, not only to help them achieve their business goals, but also to ensure they get the best return on their investment by advising on which digital business methods will have the most impact.

Comments Off on Seek the Right Advice on eCommerce Website Development
With such a wide range of affordable tools and platforms available, it has never been easier to start a business online. But as the barriers to entry have fallen the internet has become increasingly competitive, with more and more websites vying for our attention.
While there may be a temptation to use a DIY tool to build your website, or a cheap web agency, it is worth considering the following:
Stand out from the crowd – DIY tools and budget web design packages rely on standard web design templates. In an increasingly crowded market you want web design that stands out from everyone else.
Use their expertise – You’ll have a million decisions to make about your ecommerce website development when you’re starting out, including basic things such as whether you build a Magento shop, or use the WooCommerce plugin for WordPress. An ecommerce agency will be able to guide you through each of these decision points, advising you on the best course of action at each turn.
Focus on what you’re great at – One of the final points to consider is the time investment required to get your website off the ground. If web development isn’t your strong point, you’ll waste lots of time building a poorly performing site that you could have spent driving your business forward in other ways.
Remember, what works also changes over time, and working with a partner agency gives you access to the very latest information on what is up and coming in the web design space.
Give your business the edge
Professional ecommerce website development can be the difference between success and failure for online businesses. While many people think that you simply need a page that lists your products, and a mechanism for collecting payment, there are actually far more detailed nuances that should be considered. For example:
Build trust signals – When you’re asking people to hand over their credit card details, they need to have a certain level of trust in your brand. This starts with having a professionally designed website that is free of errors, glitches and formatting mistakes, but also extends to things like having the proper SSL certificates.
Drive conversion – It is one thing getting lots of traffic to your site, but how do you convert them into paying customers? Really great ecommerce website development focuses on turning that traffic into revenue.
Optimise order flow – A big part of improving your conversion rate is about optimising the experience for the customer as they go through the order process. How easy is it to go from placing something in the basket to having your order confirmed? The more difficult you make it, with more steps in between, the higher drop-off rate you can expect.
Secure – Clearly, security is of utmost importance when collecting financial and personal information online. Not only do you need to give your customers the right trust signals, as outlined above, but you need to protect the future of your business. A security breach could result in fines and serious reputational damage. Professional ecommerce website development will take this into consideration from the outset.
Find a partner to help you scale
Many people see web development as a one-time thing, designing and building a website for a particular purpose and then not updating it until many years down the line. However, for the most successful online businesses, web development is a core part of what they do.
By analysing site traffic and customer interactions you can optimise different parts of the site on a daily basis. Removing steps from the order flow, building new trust signals or taking steps to optimise conversion will all have a positive impact on your revenue figures.
At AsOne, we work with clients on all aspects of their digital business development, from helping them with the initial concept design, through to building the site and generating traffic. We also form lasting relationships to help grow the business through constant iteration and improvement to the sites over time.
If you’re ready to try a new approach to your website or business and would like some ideas, get in touch.
If you use the internet, General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) will affect you! On the 18th May 2018, the new GDPR will come into force. AsOne have written a ‘snapshot’ guide to help you get ready.
First things first, you may be thinking that it won’t affect UK businesses after Brexit, however, the current interpretation covers any company anywhere where the data of an EU citizen is stored. Not only that but the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) has indicated that this regulation will be adopted into UK legislation pre-Brexit since it comes into force before the Brexit date.
The regulation text is long, very long. We have listed below the main takeaway points you should consider to help you make progress towards compliance before the deadline. Of course it goes without saying that this does not replace professional legal advice.
A lot of talk centres on the possibility of huge fines. This is being used by so called GDPR experts to scare businesses into buying software or policies to guarantee compliance. Don’t fall for it. Compliance is not solved with a piece of software, policies or some new terms and conditions. Compliance is an ongoing process and since the regulation is still quite vague in certain areas nobody can claim to be an expert. Much like the scaremongering that followed the EU Cookie Law, fines are unlikely unless you are not making progress towards compliance or ignore official warnings and recommendations.
Eight Points to Consider
The GDPR covers personal data or data that could be linked to personally identifiable data. This includes your customers (of course) but don’t forget your suppliers and your staff. They are all covered by the GDPR. Current thinking is that B2B data is treated no differently if it contains personally identifiable data. For example firstname.lastname@example.org is not personally identifiable but email@example.com is personally identifiable.
No longer will it be acceptable to ask users to opt out of sharing data or receiving marketing information. The regulation is clear that all processing of data must have explicit consent. As a rule of thumb if the data you hold has not been given to you with a clear consent to it being processed you shouldn’t process it.
It is assumed that transactional data processing such as sending out receipts for purchases will be exempt, however the advice is to get users to opt-in anyway. Many websites already won’t let you proceed unless you agree to their terms and this may extend to opting into having your data processed too.
ACCESS TO DATA
Anyone whose data you hold will have a right to access it within 30-days of their request. There will no longer be a provision to charge for this data request. Of course if your customers data is available via a public login (e.g. a ‘my account’ section on an eCommerce site) then they already have access with your assistance, however if you hold data elsewhere (e.g. accounts package) and the user does not have access, then you will have to comply with the request within 30 days.
If you hold data on any person they will have the right to be ‘forgotten’. The right to erasure does not provide an absolute ‘right to be forgotten’. Individuals have a right to have personal data erased and to prevent processing only in specific circumstances typically when there is no compelling reason for its continued processing. If you have legal obligations to store data this should supersede the user’s request to erase their data, but may affect your ability to continue to use or process it.
DATA PROTECTION OFFICER
A Data Protection Officer (DPO) should be appointed if your organisation is large, a public authority, collecting mass data or CCTV monitoring. Unfortunately there is no guidance on what constitutes a “large” organisation. For most SMEs no DPO will be required, however, somebody in your organisation will still need to be responsible for GDPR compliance. If you do need a DPO then that person cannot be conflicted. They can’t, for example, be head of IT or be responsible for any of the data assets.
Do you have third parties processing data for you? You probably do if you have a website, use online software or outsource any of your data processing requirements. You might also be the third party, processing data for other organisations. The GDPR will extend to those persons processing data not just the controllers (owners) of the data. It is vital if you are the controller that you put in place contracts with clauses that detail how a third party can process data on your behalf. It is the controller’s responsibility to put these process in place. Since AsOne host 100’s of websites, we will be contacting all our clients to remind them to ensure they draft contracts to protect themselves.
Are you protected? Is your website and data secure? Is your data encrypted? Has your site got an SSL certificate? When the GDPR comes into force any data breach must be reported to the ICO within 72-hours of you becoming aware. Of all the regulations it will probably be this one that lands you in hot water if you are not compliant. The GDPR is not designed to enforce security measures it’s all about how you deal with data. That being said, if your data is secure then the possibility of a breach is minimised and you are less likely to fall foul of the GDPR.
There is an easy win that will reduce your workload and help with your compliance. Data is not limited to digital media, GDPR covers paper documents and any other forms of data storage.
Quite simply, if you are holding data that you don’t need, are not legally required to keep or don’t intend to use, delete it. If you haven’t got it you don’t have to worry if your process is compliant.
It’s all about demonstrating compliance or progress towards it. So to help you we have created a checklist to get you started. “Get you started” is an important phrase, as mentioned previously GDPR is an ongoing process and it is likely to continue to evolve in the short and long term.
INFORMATION ASSET REGISTER
Make a list of all the locations where you store personal data. That includes the boxes in the store room, your eMail accounts, websites, CRM system and much more. Remember this is for personal data, it doesn’t matter if it is for a customer, supplier or employee. A simple spreadsheet will do, record the following information:
Name of the Asset
Owner (who is responsible for it in your organisation)
Processor (who is processing the data, is it a 3rd party)
Shared (Is the data shared and who)
Does it contain Personally Identifiable Information?
What format is it in (digital, paper, etc.)
Retention (any legal obligations to retain data, how long will it be kept)
Risks (what risks to the data can you foresee)
PRIVACY IMPACT ASSESSMENT (PIA)
Once you identify your data assets you can now assess them.
Describe the information flows. How is data recorded, stored and processed?
Identify the privacy and related risks. How could data be compromised?
Identify and evaluate the privacy solutions. How can you protect the data?
Sign off and record the PIA outcomes
Integrate the outcomes into the project plan by your organisation’s heads.
Consult with internal and external stakeholders as needed throughout the process
POLICIES & PROCEDURES
Once you have identified the data, the risks and how you can mitigate them implement policies and procedures to act on that information and further reduce risks. Ensure you have a process in place to cover how your organisation responds to data requests and data breaches. Most importantly you need to schedule regular reviews of your policies and procedures.
None of this makes any difference if your employees and third parties don’t know about it. An important part of your procedure is to ensure your employees and third parties are clear about their roles and responsibilities.
The main takeaway is to ensure you start this process soon. Again, the emphasis is on “start”, it is unlikely that most organisations will ever be “finished”. The most important thing you can do is identify what data you hold and start from there.
As always, if you would like to discuss how GDPR impacts your website or digital marketing you only need to get in touch and we would be happy to help.
Comments Off on Crafting the Perfect eCommerce Website Design
When you’re building or growing your online business, getting the eCommerce Website Design right from the start will be a determining factor of your success. Your website is your online storefront, and failing to make it engaging and simple to use for your customers will result in low conversion rates and ultimately poor business performance.
We’ve identified some of the key things to look out for when working with an ecommerce agency to help craft the perfect website design:
Start With Big Ideas
As with any creative endeavour, finding the perfect website design starts with imagining really big ideas. You will no doubt already have big aspirations for your business, but how do you translate that passion and drive into something you can share with your customers over the internet?
Rather than thinking of your online store as simply a list of products and a shopping cart, an ecommerce website design agency like AsOne will help you to take a step back and think about the art of the possible. What are things that we can do to wow your customers, what are the things that no one else is doing?
All of this should also tie back to your digital business development strategy, thinking about how you convert website traffic into paying customers.
Industry Leading Design
Ecommerce is a really competitive space, with so many new businesses starting every day. Aside from the major online retailers like Amazon and Ebay you are also competing against a huge array of aspiring entrepreneurs.
The barriers to entry for starting an ecommerce business are lower than ever, with platforms like WordPress now making it possible to start an online store in literally a matter of minutes.
To stand out in this crowded field it is vital that you rise above the rest with a great looking, professionally designed website. Working with an agency who can provide you with an industry leading design is a great way to ensure that you are differentiated from the competition.
Rather than building the underlying technology that powers your store from scratch, there are many platforms already available. Some of the best examples include Magento, or the WooCommerce plugin for WordPress.
It is important that you work with an agency who has experience with multiple different ecommerce platforms, and can advise you as to which is best suited to your needs.
An agency that lacks this experience could steer you towards the solutions that they know best, whether it is appropriate for you or not.
The Perfect Partner
At AsOne we have experience creating successful ecommerce websites for brand new businesses, and also working with existing businesses to transform their website.
We recognise that scaling online businesses is a gradual process, and we work closely with our clients as their strategic partners to guide them on their journey.
If you’d like some ideas on where to start with your ecommerce website design, or some advice on whether your existing site is in need of an overhaul, don’t hesitate to get in touch.
Comments Off on Why You Shouldn’t Underestimate Security for eCommerce…
Over the past few years it has become easier and easier to set up an ecommerce store, particularly as platforms like WooCommerce and Magento have evolved so security for eCommerce is essential.
Unfortunately, over the same period, cybercrime has become increasingly familiar, with more people and companies falling victim every day.
While it is now possible to set up a store online in literally a matter of minutes, it is essential that you invest the necessary time and effort to ensure the security of your platform.
Failure to address security for eCommerce can have disastrous consequences for all involved.
Align your security needs to your eCommerce platform
Two of the most popular platforms for setting up an eCommerce business are WooCommerce and Magento, but as each of these are different they will have unique security challenges.
WooCommerce runs as a plugin on the WordPress platform, and therefore is also exposed to the security vulnerabilities of WordPress. Magento, on the other hand, is a dedicated eCommerce CMS and offers specialist security patches, making it arguably slightly more secure.
Security Considerations to keep in mind
Security for eCommerce is a broad field and there are several things you need to keep in mind to protect your customers’ data and the reputation of your business. This ranges from very simple tactical security changes, to more advanced, strategic options.
Platform updates – Whichever eCommerce platform you decide to use you should take the time to regularly check for updates and make sure that these are installed. Cybercriminals will look to exploit known security flaws, and the software developers regularly publish updates that seek to fix them.
Password strength – Ensuring that all your employees that have access to the platform use sufficiently strong passwords, with a mix of alphanumeric and special characters are a simple way to make it more difficult for hackers to break into your site. Similarly, when you ask customers to sign up you can request that they also use strong passwords.
SSL certificates – Installing the correct security certificates on your site is a really important step, not only to make your site more secure, but also to demonstrate to your customers that you are trustworthy. Google has started giving preference to sites with SSL certificates, so this could also improve your ranking with the search engines.
Data protection – Aside from the task of securing your site and customer data, you should also think more broadly about what data you are collecting about people and what you plan to do with it. You also need to be able to demonstrate that you’ve deleted private data about people if they so wish. Making the effort to consider these scenarios will help to inform your site security initiatives and could save you time further down the road.
Don’t underestimate the implications of getting this wrong
While some of these steps might seem simple, crafting an effective data protection and eCommerce security strategy that stays relevant as your business grows can be a real challenge.
Failing to properly consider these points can lead to security breaches, resulting in loss of customer data, fines, and damage to your business reputation.
At AsOne we’ve worked with businesses of all sizes, whether thinking about security from the very start or retrospectively implementing security improvements to their sites.
Spending time consulting experts will ultimately reap rewards in the long run, allowing you to focus on marketing and growing your business, safe in the knowledge that the security of the platform is taken care of.

Comments Off on Get Your Online Store up and Running With WooCommerce
If you’re thinking about setting up an eCommerce platform to sell your products or services online, WooCommerce for WordPress is a great option. It is one of the most popular and well-respected eCommerce platforms available and currently powers almost 30% of stores online, and 93% of all eCommerce stores on WordPress. With all the core shopping functionality built-in, you can have your store up and running in a short space of time and without the high cost of building a bespoke platform from scratch.
Since the initial release in 2011, WooCommerce has evolved to have lots of great benefits including:
No Licence Fees – The core WooCommerce WordPress plugin is completely free to use and includes the majority of the features that you will need to build your store, such as calculating postage and tax and accepting payments via PayPal. It even includes things like accepting discount codes. This makes it a really cost-effective way to get started.
Customisable – The platform comes with lots of customisable features that you can tweak to fit with the look and feel of your site and brand. You can also customise different elements of the user flow through the order process.
Extendable – The core functionality of WooCommerce is excellent, but one of the things that really distinguishes it from the competition is the extensions store, which allows you to add other features to the platform. This includes everything from simple enhancements to the core platform, through to accepting different forms of payment, shipping rules, tiered pricing and marketing add-ons.
Supported – WooCommerce is a stable platform supported by a team of professionals. This means that there are people constantly working to make the platform better and faster. There is extensive documentation detailing all aspects of the platform with a large online community. AsOne also offers full support to our customers so you are never alone.
These features make it the perfect eCommerce solution for conducting your business online – and it can be added to your business for just £95/month.
Professional configuration and customisation
Although one of the great things about WooCommerce is that it is simple to install and setup, getting the most from the platform requires a greater level of technical expertise and industry experience.
At AsOne, we have built up extensive knowledge, through implementing and running WooCommerce for a number of online brands. Partnering with AsOne not only gives you the confidence that the platform is properly configured and stable but also allows you to make specific customisations to ensure it fits with your website, brand and overall business development strategy.

Comments Off on Protect Your Website with AsOne’s Secure Website Packages for WordPress
Cyber security is becoming an increasingly important consideration for any business owner, and taking steps to protect your website is now a vital activity.
If your website is a key source of revenue for your business, or even if it is just a place your customers can go to find out more about you, failing to properly protect it can have disastrous consequences.
While most business leaders and owners know this to be true, many are still failing to divert the investment or resources necessary to secure their website.
Know your security vulnerabilities
Due to its flexibility and affordability, WordPress is the most popular content management system on the web and is the platform of choice for many businesses.
Unfortunately, this also exposes WordPress sites to a number of known security vulnerabilities that need to be addressed:
Log in page – Most people use the default log in page for WordPress, meaning it is very easy for hackers to find and then try to force entry to your site. Many sites do not limit the number of password attempts either.
Weak passwords – By default WordPress does not force users to enter strong passwords (for example using a mix of numbers, letters and special characters).
Outdated or untrustworthy code – Failing to install the latest updates of core WordPress code and all of the themes and plugins on your site can leave you open to being hacked. Hackers will actively look for sites that have not installed the latest security patches and try to exploit them.
Options to protect your website
Thankfully, there are some simple steps you can take to help protect your website.
For example, checking your site admin pages regularly to see if there are updates available and making sure they are installed does not take a lot of time, but can make a huge difference.
Secondly, you might want to think about installing an SSL certificate on your site to make it more secure.
AsOne works with a number of businesses that don’t have the time or expertise to manage these security vulnerabilities themselves, and offers a number of packages to help provide create peace of mind.
WordPress Lockdown – This one off package changes the default admin page and disables several WordPress options to make it more difficult to gain access to your site. It also includes checking that the latest version of core WordPress software is installed.
WordPress Servicing & Protection Warranty – This package is for businesses who want to ensure that the security of their site is monitored on a monthly basis. It includes everything in the Lockdown package, as well as other features such as daily scans of the site for malware, regular checks that software is up to date and a priority clean, repair and restore if your site is hacked.
Click here for more information on these packages.
Working with a partner such as AsOne is an excellent way to ensure that the security of your website is not ignored, without diverting time or energy away from your core business.

Comments Off on SSL Website Encryption is Now a “must have” for Online Services
We wrote recently about how security is becoming more and more important for modern businesses, as they place greater reliance on technology, and the threat of cybercrime increases this is the time to look in to the possibility of an SSL Certificate.
While previously companies might have got away with a more relaxed approach to cyber security, it is now at the forefront of many business leaders minds’.
This is particularly relevant to e-commerce companies, or people who have a strong web presence, where failing to properly secure systems can have a devastating effect on the company’s reputation.
However, many other companies are also taking their security very seriously, even those that aren’t collecting personal or financial information, like the BBC.
At AsOne we’ve helped businesses from a wide range of industries address these challenges.
No Longer “Nice to Have”
A great example of how important security has become is the fact that SSL certificates are now required as part of the terms of service for many online platforms.
For example, you need an up to date SSL certificate to be fully compliant with services like Google Shopping. Google has a very clear policy on data collection and use that states:
“Google wants users to trust that information about them will be respected and handled with appropriate care. As such, our advertising partners should not misuse this information, nor collect it for unclear purposes or without appropriate security measures.”
The same page goes on to cite that the policy does not allow “collecting personal information…over an unsecured page which is not SSL protected and without a valid certificate”.
SSL Certificates and Search Engine Marketing
Google’s quest to present users with secure, trustworthy sites extends beyond Google Shopping. For some time the presence of SSL certificates has been used as one of the factors that determines where sites rank in the search results.
At the moment it is of fairly low importance compared to content quality and link profile, but it could easily be the difference between you getting on the first page or not.
It is possible that this will become more important in the future, with unsecured sites being actively penalised by search engines.
Do I need an SSL certificate?
Securing your website with an SSL certificate is an effective way to help protect your customers’ personal data, and the reputation of your business. Failing to take this step not only puts you at risk of attack, but will also leave you in breach of the terms for many online services.
This is something you should consider even if you don’t have a huge web presence.
For advice on whether you need an SSL website certificate for your business, the benefits it could have and how to implement it, why not get in touch and arrange a call with one of our technical experts?
Comments Off on Use SSL Certificates to Create a Secure Website and Boost Your Business
Do you have a secure website?
The huge surge in cybercrime over the past few years has been well documented by the media, with several high profile companies suffering devastating attacks.
The recent WannaCry attack brought the NHS to a standstill, but also infected computers around the globe causing untold damage. In many cases the immediate loss of your ability to trade is only part of the problem, several large organisations have suffered serious reputational damage in the wake of these types of attacks, which have tarnished their share price and brand image for years to come.
Regulatory fines for failing to protect your systems properly can also exacerbate the problem further. In the case of Talk Talk, they received a record fine of £400,000 for the theft of their customer data in 2016.
Take Action to Secure Your Website
This recent trend has highlighted the need for increased security, with many business owners asking themselves “how do we make sure this doesn’t happen to us”.
With your website so often serving as the entry point to other systems, it is essential that you take the necessary steps to protect it.
One way to secure your website is with an SSL certificate. This Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) certificate creates a secure link between your web server and your customer’s browser, making it far more difficult for hackers to intercept sensitive information like passwords, or credit card details.
Visitors to your site will see that it is secure from the padlock in the address bar, and the fact that you have an https URL, as opposed to just http.
This is a vital part of keeping your customers’ data safe online, and more and more businesses are adopting the SSL standard.
Secondary Benefits of A Secure Website
Beyond the obvious security impact, there are other benefits to installing an SSL certificate on your site:
Trust and conversion – Trust is a really important part of the sales processes, and customers seeing that your website is secure can increase your conversion rate, resulting in higher sales.
SEO – Another benefit of SSL certificates is that since 2014 Google has recognised HTTPS as a ranking signal. This means that in some instances they will give preference to secured sites over unsecured ones, thus increasing your search engine ranking and organic traffic.
Consider Security from the Outset
When we’re building digital marketing strategies at AsOne, we look across the end to end customer journey, and building trust with your customer base is a really important part of that.
We know that having a secure website where customers will feel safe handing over their payment details can be a key factor in your success and therefore make this a key consideration from the outset.
We also have experience helping people configure SSL certificates for existing websites, and understand the intricacies of setting them up properly.

Comments Off on Using Search Engine Marketing to Build your Audience
Search Engine Marketing is an all-encompassing term that is all to do with directing traffic to your site from search results pages, either by using paid ads, or improving your position in the organic rankings.
Businesses are increasingly looking at how they can improve their performance in the organic listings by publishing articles and other informational content.
Draw more traffic to your site – As you add more and more content to your site, you will find that you start to rank in search engines not only for your target phrases, but also for other words and phrases related to your articles. This increases the total number of times that you will appear in the search results, which ultimately leads to more people viewing your website.
Establish your expertise – By writing high quality, original articles you can establish yourself or your company as a leader in your industry. This will make your site a really valuable resource for your customers and helps to build trust. Further down the line this increased trust will help to increase your conversion rate.
Proactively address your customers’ questions – Producing articles for your site gives you the opportunity to answer some of the key questions that will run throufigh your customer’s mind before they make a purchase. This helps them to feel more confident about your products or services and therefore also drives up your conversion rate.
Longevity – While traffic from paid search will stop as soon as you stop buying ads, search engine marketing can continue to bring organic traffic to your site long after you did the initial work. Investing in producing high quality content today, could potentially still rank really well in many years to come.
Search Engine Marketing Ranking Factors
To improve your performance in the search engine rankings, your primary focus has to be on producing really high-quality, naturally written, unique content that provides genuine value to your audience.
That being said, there is a wide range of SEO tactics that you should consider if you want to accelerate the time it takes to get to Google’s first page.
One of the most important things is to find keywords to focus your article on that will give you the best chance of ranking. Targeting phrases that are too competitive will make it very difficult to rank, meaning that you receive very little, if any, share of the search traffic.
Other things to keep in mind include:
Is your target keyword in your URL?
Is your target keyword in your main heading / title?
Have you included relevant images and included the keyword in the file name, image title and alt text?
Have you linked to relevant internal and external sites?
How many other pages link back to your article?
Backlinks are one of the primary ranking factors that Google’s looks at, so you should make sure you spend sufficient time promoting your content to encourage people to link back to it.
Successful search engine marketing strategies can take a long time to implement, and you have to be willing to invest for a number of months before you really start seeing results.
Many companies fall into the trap of starting a blog, and then giving up on it when they don’t start to see the impact immediately. Blog writing can take up a lot of time and if you aren’t seeing results it can feel hard to justify the work. It is for this reason that more and more companies are outsourcing their content production using external copywriting services.
At AsOne we have experience with all aspects of search engine marketing and are well versed in the latest tips and tricks that will help to increase your position in the search ranking.
Our focus however is always on working with our clients to produce really great content that their audience will love, and that will keep driving traffic into their businesses for many years to come.
Comments Off on Improve your Marketing ROI with Dynamic Remarketing
When you’re running an eCommerce business, drawing interested, qualified buyers to your site is the key to continued growth. While there are lots of different options for building your audience, remarketing on the Google Display Network has proven to be one of the most effective.
This type of marketing lets you use Google Adwords to target only people who have previously visited your site. Having viewed your products or services already, these “warm” visitors are far more likely to make a purchase. This can have a huge impact on your click through rate and conversion rates, and greatly improve the ROI of your campaigns.
Dynamic Remarketing takes this one step further.
Accelerate your growth with dynamic remarketing
Dynamic Remarketing is an advanced marketing technique that combines data from various Google tools to serve targeted ads to people based on the products they have viewed on your site.
To make use of this technique you need the following Google services:
Google uses data from your Analytics account to see which pages and products people have viewed and pulls data from Merchant Center relating to the price of your products. It then automatically builds customised adverts using this data, which are served to potential customers via the Adwords platform.
Leveraging all the data available to you is a key factor in achieving success with digital marketing and while the process of creating the right linkages between these services may seem complicated it will pay dividends in the long run.
For example, Netshoes, the Brazilian sports retailer, cited a 30% increase in revenue after implementing this strategy.
AsOne have experience working with a range of clients to implement these technical marketing campaigns to achieve significant benefits.
Including Dynamic Remarketing in a Broader Growth Strategy
Dynamic remarketing can be really powerful when combined with other marketing techniques like search engine marketing. This combination allows you to draw people in through organic search results and engage them with high-quality content.
If they don’t make a purchase, you can then retarget them with personalised adverts across the Google Display Network, and direct them back to your products.
At AsOne we understand the importance of aligning each strand of the overall marketing strategy and take the time to ensure that each campaign fully supports the broader digital business development plan.
If you’d like to learn more about dynamic remarketing and how it could help maximise your marketing spend, don’t hesitate to get in touch and one of our experienced digital marketing technicians will walk you through the options.
Comments Off on Have You Made the Switch to Google Apps for Business?
As your business starts to grow and you take on more employees, at some stage you will need to start thinking about the IT software and systems that power the way you work.
For almost three decades Microsoft Office has been the de facto choice for productivity software in offices and schools around the world, but in the past few years, Google has started to challenge this with their G Suite range of apps.
The G Suite range now includes a number of applications that are equivalent to the well-known Microsoft versions:
Gmail / Calendar
Why use Google Apps for Business?
Using Google Apps for Business comes with many great benefits:
Cost – With the basic package starting at just £3.30 per user per month, G Suite is a very cost effective way of offering productivity tools to you employees and standardising the tools that people work on. This model means that you can easily flex up and down as your company grows.
Security – Using cloud-based storage and applications means that you have less data stored locally that you have to look after. For instance, if your laptop is lost or stolen you don’t lose any of your files as they are all saved remotely. Similarly, you are at less risk of your systems being hacked and data compromised as your applications are hosted in Google’s data centres, and have Google’s security engineers worrying about how best to protect them.
Collaboration – G Suite comes with excellent built-in collaboration features, making it much easier for your teams to work together, even if they are remote teams spread across different locations. Not only does it include video and voice conferencing, but also the ability to share documents and for multiple people to edit documents at the same time.
Flexibility – As Google Apps are cloud-based this makes working flexibility really easy. You can access your files from virtually any device, from anywhere in the world. This includes viewing and editing documents on your smartphone. These types of features are particularly attractive if you want to build a flexible working culture where employees are allowed to work from home.
The “Business” and “Enterprise” packages come with other additional features such as data leakage prevention tools and audit logs to track usage, making them suitable for larger companies.
Migrating to Google Apps for Business
As Microsoft products are so deeply embedded in many organisations, uptake of Google Apps for business was initially among smaller businesses and solo entrepreneurs. Recently however many larger organisations have started to look at whether they can use Google apps to act as a challenger to Microsoft and help reduce their costs.
If you’re looking to streamline and standardise the tools that your employees are using, or want to increase productivity by introducing new collaboration tools, Google Apps for Business could be the right option for you.
Contact us today if you would like to benefit from our industry expertise during your transition to Google Apps for business.

The feature also allows you to see a variety of ‘stories’ that are being shared from everyday or event profiles from all around the world. You’re represented by a cartoon avatar which you can customise to look like you on an app called Bitmoji. Your cartoon self can then use the location services on your phone to estimate what activity you are currently doing by monitoring travel speed, and phone useage. For example, if you’ve not been using your phone for a few hours at night, then the app will change your cartoon avatar to represent you sleeping.
So what’s the problem?
Whilst watching your cartoon version of you and your friends interact in real time on a map can be an indulgement to the curiosity, it can reveal things such as when your house is vacant, or where you’ve left your car. Additionally for younger, more naїve users who may not be aware of the new features sinister connotations, they may not be aware of the dangers of broadcasting their exact location to the relative strangers in their contacts list. As this is an ‘opt-out’ service, some people may not even be aware that the app is accessing this information.
So what can you do about it?
Don’t worry! You can do something about it. Snapchat allows a user to go into ‘ghost mode’ which allows you to completely remove your cartoon avatar from the snapchat map. Or, if you prefer, you can select which friends are able to see where you are rather than publicising your location to everyone.

Comments Off on Could Copywriting Services Transform your Content?
High quality, naturally written content is becoming an increasingly important part of any successful website. With your site acting as the first point of contact with many of your customers, it is vital that you spend sufficient time thinking about exactly what you want to say, and how you want to say it.
The benefits of great content
Boosts your ranking in Google – Google actively favours sites that produce high quality, unique content. Spending the time to create engaging articles will ensure that you rank for a larger variety of keywords, and drive more traffic to your site.
Demonstrates expertise – The copy on your site is your chance to show off to your customers how much you know about your given field. It is an opportunity to establish yourself as an expert by sharing your wisdom.
Engages your readers – You can also use content to engage readers, by giving them truly valuable information, not just a promise of more information once they’ve made a purchase.
Opportunity to answer your customer’s questions – Through FAQ style pages and blog content, you can pre-emptively address any queries that customers might have about your products or services, effectively qualifying leads, and streamlining the sales process.
Shares and links – By producing unique content, it is more likely to be shared on social media, and people will link back to it from their own sites. Backlinks have long been known as a key ranking factor in Google’s algorithm, so more links will give you a further boost in search rankings.
Fine tune your copy over time
Persuasive copy on your sales pages can have a huge impact on your conversion rate, but it isn’t always easy to get right first time. The best copy evolves over many iterations, using site analytics to optimise each time.
Tools like Google’s Search Console and Analytics will enable you to see which search terms people used to find your site, the pages they landed on, and other statistics like how long they spent on each page. By editing, your copy you can see what impact it has on these performance indicators.
One popular method is to use A/B tests. This is where a percentage of your users are shown a different variant of the sales copy, and you can see how this page performs compared to the standard page. You can then decide whether you want to implement the changes based on the results.
Use a strategic partner to lighten the load
Many people simply don’t have the amount of spare time required to research, write, edit, test and iterate the type of content that can drive their website forward.
Given the importance of having high quality, original content, it is better not to write anything than to produce substandard material.
Thankfully there is another option. Many businesses are choosing to use third party copywriting services to help manage this workload.
At AsOne, we act as the trusted partner to many of our clients, taking the time to understand their business and their audience, before crafting content strategies that are bespoke to them.
If you’d like to understand how AsOne can lighten your workload, don’t hesitate to contact us.
Comments Off on Affiliate Marketing: Leverage Established Audiences to Grow Your Business
When you’re building a business online, generating large amounts of traffic is key to making sales, but this can be a very slow, or very expensive process. For example:
Content marketing – If you choose to focus on organic search marketing and SEO, it can take a long time to build up a good repository of content and for the search engines to start ranking your page
Pay Per Click – If you focus on paid search it can be very expensive, with no guarantee of sales
Thankfully there is another option. Affiliate marketing can be an effective way to grow your business by leveraging other people’s existing audiences, and you only pay when you make a sale.
In this model, affiliates promote your products or services, driving traffic back to your site in exchange for a percentage of each sale.
Key Benefits of Affiliate Marketing
Affiliate marketing offers a number of advantages over other marketing tools including:
Warm leads – All the referrals are warm leads; they have seen some information relating to your product or service and have decided to click through to read more. Depending on the affiliate and how bought into your program they are, they may actively promote your product, highlighting why it is better than other similar products.
Low start-up cost – Unlike other types of marketing, you typically do not pay out any money until you make a sale. This is a cost-effective way to grow your business and start getting sales, particularly when you have constraints on your cash flow.
Backlinks – As each of the affiliates will link back to your site, you can build up a strong backlink profile in a relatively short space of time. Backlinks are one of the primary ranking factors that Google looks for, so lots of people linking to your site will have a significant impact on how well you rank in the search engines.
For affiliate marketing to be effective you need to find a balance between paying a low enough commission percentage to make the sale worthwhile for you, whilst also paying a high enough amount to be attractive to top selling affiliate.
For some high margin products, particularly information products like ebooks or online courses, many companies will pay over 50% in commission. This is typical of what you might find on an affiliate marketplace like ClickBank.
In contrast, the Amazon Associates scheme, which is one of the most successful affiliate programs on the web, pays a much lower commission, typically around 3 to 5%.
Creating Additional Revenue Streams
Another option that you may want to consider if you already have a high traffic site, is whether you could become an affiliate for other retailers. This might be a simple way to add an additional revenue stream to your business and monetise traffic that might not have made a purchase.
Some people have built entire businesses around this model, seeking out ways to build a large audience and then promoting other people’s products or services.
Creative and Analytical Thinking Will Ultimately Prevail
At AsOne we pride ourselves on working across the full spectrum of marketing tools and looking for innovative ways to help our clients promote their businesses.
Affiliate marketing can be an excellent cost-effective option to help accelerate the growth of your business, but you need to think strategically about how it aligns with your other marketing channels and take an analytical view of how well it is working.
If you’d like a conversation about whether affiliate marketing might be suitable for your business, contact us today and we can talk through some of the options with you.
Comments Off on Use Third Party Reviews to Build Trust and Transparency
A key part of digital business development is building your online brand. Investing the time to create an online presence that users know and trust will pay dividends in the long run, as it elevates all areas of your business.
A great way to build trust and transparency with your customers is through use of third party reviews. Giving a customer the opportunity to see what other people felt about their purchase makes them a much more informed, confident and ultimately satisfied buyer.
Why use third party reviews?
Displaying product and service reviews on your website has many benefits, some of which have an obvious and tangible effect, while others are more subtle:
Social validation – Displaying customer reviews help people to feel more confident in their purchase as it shows that other people have made the same purchase in the past. Shopping online can be a lonely pursuit, but reviews help to create a sense of community.
Higher Conversion Rate (CR) – By building in these social proof points, people are more comfortable on your site and therefore more likely to buy your products. This drives up the conversion rate for the site.
Improved Click Through Rate (CTR) – Some Review platforms like Reviews.co.uk will enable you to display star ratings in Google search results. Product pages with a high star rating have been shown to receive a much higher CTR, meaning that more people will land on your site.
Reduced advertising costs – A higher CTR in the search results means that you can spend less on advertising to receive the same amount of clicks, therefore increasing profit by reducing your overall cost base while keeping revenue stable.
Fewer returns – Being fully transparent with people and giving them an unbiased review of what the product does well (and not so well) empowers them to make a far more informed purchase. Knowing the downsides to the product before they buy sets their expectations appropriately and makes them less likely to return the item.
Client testimonials have long been used to give potential customers social validation, but these can easily come across as contrived and biased. Third party reviews can have a far greater impact as they are impartial and present an honest and balanced view.
Whether you’re selling through a WordPress site, Shopify, or a Magento shop, there are plugins available that will enable you to collect and display reviews on your platform.
We have experience building this into campaigns and have seen first-hand the type of impact it can have. If you’d like a conversation about what third party reviews could do for your business, don’t hesitate to get in touch.
Comments Off on eCommerce Marketing: Build Your Online Presence to Boost Your Sales
In order to grow your online business you need to craft an effective eCommerce marketing strategy that not only engages your target audience, but that also ultimately steers them through your sales funnel and turns them into fully fledged buyers.
This starts with gaining a really clear understanding of your marketplace, your potential customers and your competition.
Traditional marketing practices often talk about building up personas for each of your target segments, and this can be a really useful exercise to help you think about who you are selling to.
What is the typical age of your ideal customer?
Are they male or female?
What types of hobbies are they interested in?
How active are they on social media?
Companies engage with their audiences differently depending on who they are, and this applies just as equally online as it does offline.
A thorough understanding of your competition and the way they market themselves is a great place to start when you are building your strategy.
Thankfully there are a number of tools that you can use to help build up this picture of the competitive landscape. For example, using SEMRush.com, you can see how well your competitors rank for different keywords.
Another tool, Answerthepublic.com, enables you to analyse the types of questions that people are asking online relating to specific keywords.
AsOne has experience using these and many other tools, to help gain a clear picture of the business environment that our clients are operating in.
Turning Insight into Strategy
Once you have built up a solid understanding of your customers and the marketplace, you can use this knowledge to craft an effective eCommerce marketing strategy.
This will include identification of the preferred marketing tools to reach your audience, including:
Content marketing – Blog posts or articles are a great opportunity to proactively answer potential questions that you audience might have. It is also an excellent way to demonstrate your expertise and credibility which will in turn improve your conversion rate.
Social media – Being active on social media is a good way to reach and engage with your audience more directly, for instance by responding to tweets or facebook messages.
Facebook ads – PPC ads on Facebook are an excellent way to quickly target a very specific sub group of people. For instance you can choose to only serve ads to people that share similar hobbies to those you identified in your ideal target persona.
The initial research is essential to understand which of these channels will be most effective for you. For example, a more B2B eCommerce marketing strategy might choose to advertise on LinkedIn rather than Facebook, as this is where potential buyers are more likely to congregate.
Analyse and Evolve
Monitoring the analytics across these channels will enable you to see how well your marketing messages are being received.
For example, you can look at the number of comments or shares relating to your blog content, you can see how many people like your social media posts, and you can look at the click through rate of your paid ads.
A core part of your strategy should then be to evolve the tools and tactics used over time, testing different approaches to see what resonates best with your audience.
With such a wide array of tools and marketing channels available it can be difficult to decide which approach is right for you.

Cyber security is becoming increasingly more important for all websites due to continual cyber attacks. As technological advances create more scope for cyber attacks there is an increasing need to ensure you are fully compliant with industry standards and are actively protecting yourself.
Only recently we have experienced a mass attack on our NHS, granted this was not the sole target however it does highlight the need for greater cyber security controls. This is a worldwide issue and one that is a constant battle to ensure you are safe & secure online.
The ransomware attack, called Wana Decrypt0r 2.0, locks users out of their devices and data, encrypting all data and demanding a ransom for the decryption key via the Tor Network. This malware is allegedly utilising the ‘EternalBlue’ exploit discovered by the NSA which has recently been leaked by a group of hackers known as ‘The Shadow Brokers’.
This malware appears to take advantage of the SMB (Server Message Block) protocol which is utilised heavily within the Microsoft operating system with an exploit to gain remote system access. The malware isn’t currently known to be distributed via email, however, this is a very likely candidate for further exposure and spread of the malware.
A patch for security was released in March for Windows 2012-16 however if your operating system is older than 2012, you are still vulnerable to attack. Microsoft has already stepped in and released a patch for older operating systems. Please ensure that your security and software are updated to the latest version as this will give you an extra layer of protection.
The spread of malware is prolific via email. Always be vigilant with emails that you open, especially if they contain attachments.
AsOne continues to invest in security measures to ensure our clients remain as secure as possible while in our care. We have a team of security experts monitoring at server level ensuring that we can react to vulnerabilities and intrusions as soon as possible. Our servers were fully patched as soon as this vulnerability was exposed.

Comments Off on Making the web more secure and what this means for your website
Google is leading an initiative to make the web a more secure environment by not only encouraging all websites to use HTTPS but by marking standard HTTP websites as “Not Secure”. With Google being the most popular Search Engine and Internet Browser it is important to take their advice seriously and other popular browsers such as Firefox are now starting to follow suit.
What are HTTP and HTTPS?
HTTP (Hyper Text Transfer Protocol) is the standard way of exchanging information on the Internet. It is the protocol that is used to allow you to connect to a website server to request and send data across the web. However, over standard HTTP connections this data can be intercepted or modified by what is known as Man-in-the-middle attacks, where someone is able to access your data as it transfers from your device to the web server. Essentially eavesdropping on any information you are passing across by entering it on an insecure website including your name, address, passwords and credit card information.
HTTPS (Hyper Text Transfer Protocol Secure) provides a secure way to exchange data with a web server without the risk of this data being intercepted or modified. It achieves this by encrypting the connection made between your device and the website server, locking out anyone who tries to access this information from another location or device.
Recent releases of the Chrome and Firefox browsers have started to label websites that collect personal information such as passwords or credit card details with a Not secure notice like the examples below.
Chrome version 56:
Firefox version 51:
This is the first phase of the plan to encourage websites to move towards using the secure connection of HTTPS, as time goes on the warnings will become more prominent and harder to ignore. Eventually web browsers may show all HTTP pages as Non Secure and the warnings will be more severe:
Future Chrome releases will display the following warnings on any http page:
Future Firefox releases will show the following message when a user clicks a username or password field on a page that does not use HTTPS:
These warnings will also appear on your platform login page, if you are using WordPress or Magento, for example, these warnings will show on your /wp-admin and /admin pages respectively. While this will not affect your website’s visitors it is a stark reminder that your login details are being entered insecurely and could be intercepted by hackers.
How will this affect my visitors?
As you can imagine these insecure warnings may lead to confusion and a lack of trust between your customers and your website. Seeing these warnings particularly on eCommerce websites may well discourage your customers from entering personal information on your website. Even if you do not take payments on your website, any website that requires your customers to log in to their account will display these messages.
Future versions of web browsers may display any HTTP page as Not Secure regardless of the information they collect as they push for every website to use HTTPS.
What should I do?
With Cybercrime on the rise and the leading web browsers advising the use of HTTPS to secure your website, there has never been a more important time to protect your website and your visitors with an SSL certificate. Having an SSL certificate on your website provides many benefits as well as the security your website will perform faster and may appear higher in search engine rankings by providing a secure connection.
Contact AsOne at firstname.lastname@example.org to have an SSL certificate installed on your website and ensure your website is secure and your customer’s data is protected.

Key times of year, like Christmas, Summer, or even “Back to School”, present retailers with opportunities to make special promotional offers to draw in more customers and increase sales.
Being agile enough to adapt to seasonal demand and making special offers to your target audience demonstrates that you understand their needs and interests and helps to strengthen your brand’s reputation.
But there are several things you should consider before launching one of these campaigns:
Prepare in advance – By thinking ahead about the key events throughout the year that will be most relevant to your target audience, you allow yourself plenty of time to plan great offers, and also create the necessary marketing material required to promote them.
Be flexible – While you should try to plan for the major events in advance, you also want to be nimble and flexible enough to adapt and make special offers related to current affairs, or popular culture that might resonate with your audience. This is particularly relevant for social media campaigns. Having a stock of marketing assets that you can edit and reuse is a great way to do this.
Set SMART objectives – When planning short term marketing strategies it is important that you set objectives that you can use to measure how successful the campaign was. This allows you to analyse your performance afterwards, so that you can build on the things that worked, and change the things that didn’t.
Innovative ideas – At many of these key times of year, competition is fierce for your customer’s attention. It is therefore vitally important that you think about innovative ways to make your business stand out from the crowd. We like to think of AsOne as an Ideas agency, and recognise how much impact a great marketing idea can have on your business.
Brand Identity – Ultimately, the promotional activity that you choose must be in keeping with your brand. By planning a calendar of events in advance you won’t be forced into rash decisions, and a stock of media assets also helps to ensure consistency of your message.
Following the steps outlined above will help to ensure that you capitalise on these opportunities, without compromising the long term message of your brand.
The above outlines retail strategies which should also work in unison with your existing retail marketing strategy. If you are running a Google Search campaign, modifying your text ads to reflect a discount or price change could aid in conversions. If you are isolating key products on social media, ensure that products which have a decent sell through rate while full price are included in the rotation to clear stock at a faster rate. Your retail strategy is directly linked to your retail marketing strategies as the end result is clear product as quickly as possible while at the highest of margins.
As an agency with extensive experience delivering effective marketing strategies both online and offline, AsOne can be your trusted partner to help you prepare in advance to make the most of these busy periods.
We work with companies to build holistic digital marketing strategies, and we ensure that the big picture messages align with the tactical marketing activities that you undertake throughout the year. If you’d like to have a conversation about how this might apply to your business, don’t hesitate to contact us.
We have all dreamed at some point in our lives what we would be like if we were to have our very own super powers. We would be able to move mountains, scale buildings and create money out of thin air. Some of us would just like to be able to create desserts out of nothing (Some of us are easily pleased!).
So for national superhero day, we asked our team members to dream up their very own superhero alter ego. Who they would like to be if they had the chance to save the world every day. Take a look at the superhero’s hidden within our team members:
Click on the images to zoom in.
So who was your favourite superhero that our team created? National superhero day shows that there is a hero in each and every one of us just waiting to burst out! We enjoy getting to see the individuality of our team members and what their imagination can come up with.
Who would you be if you were given the chance to be your very own superhero?
Today is National Tell a Story Day! We asked several of our team members to come up with their very own stories for National Tell a Story Day. These were the tales that our team members had to tell:
Richard’s Story – Are you joking?!
There was once a girl named Lauren, who started life as a peasant girl in rural Clayton. Life was hard for Lauren and she spent her days farming the land & dreaming of a better life where she could run free without all of the hardship.
One day, on a cold December morning a magical machine appeared with all of its bright lights flashing. From inside the Machine appeared a man called Daniel who said, “Lauren if you want to escape this hard life come with me and enjoy a life on the road”. Lauren was so mesmerised by Daniel the trucker she got straight in and waved goodbye to her life in Clayton. Daniel & Lauren travelled for many days and nights until they arrived in Hastings where Daniel lived. Upon seeing Hastings for the first time, Lauren was excited for her new life and eager for it to start.
After a few days, Daniel & Lauren went into the town to do some shopping. To Lauren’s horror, Daniel left her abandoned there, screaming “ARE YOU JOKING!”, she would never see him again. Alone & distraught Lauren wondered what she would do and after a few nights of sleeping rough, she decided that she must go home to Clayton. Lauren went to the local council office and begged them for help. They put her on the first train back to Manchester & her heart was lifted.
Upon seeing Clayton, Lauren was so emotional to be home that she broke down and stated that she had never been happier. Lauren went back to her shack and started the process of rebuilding her life. However, while she was gone, the shack she called home had been torn down by the council and she actually had nowhere to live. Deciding that her life is going to change, Lauren found a new house and converted her attic to a painter’s studio where she now works with pink bobbles in her hair. Best of all, her new neighbour and Spirit brother “Sherri-joe” took Lauren under his wing and showed her how to make the most of her new life. Sherri-joe & Lauren now have their very own shack together on the original land Lauren used to work all those years ago now wearing those pink bobbles while raising her quails. Daniel, on the other hand, can be found at a truck stop near you, just don’t get into his van as this only leads to broken promises.
Laurens Story – I shouldn’t have eaten that – The life of Richard de’Lioncourt
There was once a small boy called Richard. Richard fantasised of the day that he could venture out into the big open world and follow his dreams of becoming a supermodel. However, Richards mother Kim was very strict and did not like the idea of Richard becoming a supermodel, instead Kim wanted Richard to follow in his brother Daniel’s footsteps and become a truck driver – Kim thought this was more realistic and would guarantee food on the table each week.
This was the last thing Richard wanted to do. So instead, Richard set out a plan to fulfil his dream and become the next Naomi Campbell. Richard had the looks, personality and charisma to succeed in the industry but how would he even get started?
Richard had an ‘acquaintance’ called Lauren who he knew could help him be in the right place at the right time and with the right people. All he would have to do then is make himself known and remembered. What everyone seemed to forget though was Richard was an elaborate individual, who could command the presence of a room in an instance.
Lauren arranged for the pair of them to go to an event at Rhodes studio in Manchester. The event was going to be filled with numerous stars and industry professionals looking for the next ‘big thing’. Could this be Richard De’Lioncourt?
The pair arrived in their best attire – Lauren in a beautiful couture dress and Richard wearing what could only be described as a Balenciaga dream. All eyes were on Richard.
The first person to make contact was global megastar Madam Rhodes herself! Richard found himself engaging in light conversation and ‘banter’ with the star.
But what happened next could only be described as.. well… commanding the presence that was needed.
Did Richard do enough to become the next rising star? Find out in the next chapter of ‘I shouldn’t have eaten that’.
Joels story – The story of how _______ and ______ _____
As you can see we have some creative minds here at AsOne on National Tell a Story Day! Keep up to date with the strange and wonderful national days on our Twitter and Facebook.
When embarking on a new marketing campaign for your business, it is essential that you define your marketing objectives from the outset.
Without a clearly defined set of objectives, it will be much more difficult to measure the success of your campaign, and whether the investment you made was a good one.
It is vital that you take the time to understand where your business is now, before setting ambitious goals as to where you would like to be in the future.
Make Your Objectives Relevant to Your Business
At AsOne, not only do we invest time upfront with our clients to scope out their vision and goals, we also work with them to ensure they are looking at the right marketing objectives for the precise nuances of their campaign.
It is so important that the objectives are relevant to your business and the marketing channels you are using.
For instance, objectives related to PPC will be very different to those related to SEO or content marketing and the time scales will also vary greatly. Where a PPC or Google Remarketing campaign might focus on optimising the cost per click while maximising the total number of clicks, a content marketing campaign might focus on the average page rank of specified keywords, or the total number of pages ranked in Google.
Be S.M.A.R.T about Objective Setting
Remember, the best marketing objectives are SMART:
Specific – Objectives should be tightly related to a specific outcome or deliverable. What is it exactly that you would like to achieve as a result of your marketing efforts? Do you want to improve your average time on page, your conversion rate, or your number of email signups? And how much do you want to improve by?
Measurable – If objectives aren’t easily measured it is very difficult to track how well you’re performing. Thankfully most elements of digital marketing can be easily tracked and analysed, allowing you to see exactly how far you’ve come and how close you are to achieving your objectives.
Agreed upon – All stakeholders must understandand agree that the defined objectives are the right ones for the business. Do you have all the right people bought into what you are trying to achieve and are they willing to commit the necessary time and resource to make it happen?
Realistic – With our depth of experience we will be able to tell you how realistic your marketing objectives are. While we aspire to big visions and goals, it is important that the objectives are realistic within the time and investment constraints.
Time-based– It is no good leaving objectives open-ended. Having a clear timeframe helps to create the sense of urgency required to achieve great things. It also enables us to have regular review points to assess what is working and what isn’t.
Analyse and Optimise
A well-defined set of marketing objectives is really only half the battle. It is also vitally important that you are properly set up with the right tools to monitor and track your results.
Platforms such as Google Analytics, Search Console, or Adobe Omniture will empower you to understand the impact of your marketing decisions in a far more quantitative manner.
AsOne will help to ensure that these are set up and configured properly, and will invest the time with you to help make sense of the numbers.
Armed with this data, you can then evolve your campaigns over time to ensure that you stay on track to hit your objectives in the quickest time possible.
At AsOne we enjoy getting involved with seasonal holidays by doing some fun office activities that help to wake our office up early in the morning! This weeks activities brought out the creative side of our team. We took our team members back to school with some creative Easter activities!
Our first activity which we took part in was creating an Easter inspired design using the available decoration tools. All of this had to be done in under 5 minutes, so the pressure was on to create something spectacular!
We were impressed with our team’s imagination even if the finishing product was very questionable!
Our winners were Sherridan Rhodes and Richard O’Brien! They won an Easter egg for their efforts!
Our second activity of the week was an egg decorating contest just like the ones that used to be held in school. The task was simple, we had 5 minutes to decorate an egg and whoever was chosen as the best won!
It was up to director Tracey Rush to decide the winner. This is what she had to say about each egg –
Richard’s Egg Basket – ‘The chicks with the basket are very cute and represent a true traditional easter image.’
Lauren’s Mr Bump – ‘I love Mr. bump, it’s very obvious who he was even without the nameplate.’
Sam’s Mr. Googly Eyes – ‘Mr googly eyes are charming but his nose and mouth could have had more work.’
Joel’s Ninja Egg – ‘Same goes for the black ninja, his eyes were the focal point so could have been more emotive.’
Alex’s Spiderman – ‘Spiderman was really well done too but if I have to be critical I have to say the eye smudge let him down a little.’
Sherridan’s Tree Eared Creature – ‘But my winner is The little green eared creature because it’s got a real docile expression that is almost cute and it’s nothing I can relate it to. It’s completely out of someone’s imagination and yet so simply put together.’
So there you have it Sherridan’s green eared creature won!
It was great to get our team into the Easter spirit with these simple but fun office activities.
Keep a lookout on our Twitter and Instagram for more fun office activities that you can do with your team at work.
If you’re interested in ways that you can motivate your team then take a look at our previous blog on team motivation.
We will be closed over the Easter holidays 14th – 17th of April. If in this time you require support please log a support ticket on www.asone.co.uk/support/.
At AsOne we believe that team motivation is key to a successful working environment. Especially on Monday mornings when waking yourself up can prove to be difficult. No one looks forward to that alarm clock going off after a relaxing and fun weekend, whether we love our jobs or not.
That is why we have come up with 5 ways in which you can improve team motivation long term and short term.
Our huddles also give a chance for staff to share what work they have on for the day, allowing them to alert everyone as to what they will be up to. It also gives the chance to brainstorm ideas if someone finds themselves having a mental block. A fresh insight can help to improve your work and productivity.
One of the ways that we keep our own team motivated is through our morning huddles. Each week a different team member is chosen to present a motivational activity in the morning. These have ranged from quizzes to treasure hunts. The purpose of this is to help wake our team up in the morning and get them active. Activities like these can help to bring out the competitiveness of your team helping to motivate them early in the morning. It helps to get us all talking and shake the cobwebs of the morning away.
Appreciate your team
One of the easiest ways to motivate your team is to simply let them know that you appreciate the hard work that they put in. If they achieve a goal, make sure that it is recognised whether that is privately or publicly. This can be a great motivator and help to increase individual productivity. This will help to make your team members feel like a valued part of the team and create a positive company culture.
Support new ideas
For many people it can be difficult to open up and share their ideas. So when your employees share ideas make sure that you support the act of bringing ideas forward. Even if the idea is something which you can not do, it is great to encourage your team to put forward their thoughts. Your team members will feel more encouraged to present future ideas.
Keep it fun
Work doesn’t always have to feel like hard work. It’s great being productive and making sure that you get your work done but many people can become blinkered if they don’t step away from their desk. We believe that you should take time out of your day to refresh your mind and have a laugh together. Having a break can help to motivate your team and send them back into their day again with positive spirits. Getting the balance between work and time away from the desk is key. It would be no good to overwork your team, having a fun work environment can help combat this.
Good working environment
Research has shown that employees care more about their working environment than the money that they earn. It is important that your environment is one in which people can grow in and draw inspiration from. Plain walls and dull colours can leave people feeling lacklustre. A pop of colour, a few images and an open space can work wonders for your team’s mental productivity.
Having a motivated team not only benefits the team mentally but can help to improve productivity in the office. You don’t have to do grand gestures to improve team motivation. The little things like appreciating your employees can help work wonders to help motivate your team. If you would like further inspiration you can check out the hashtag #MotivationMonday on Twitter. This can help inspire your team with what other companies do to keep their team motivated.
In the 24/7 world that we live, there is so much competition for our attention that it has become easy to tune out and ignore the stream of messages that companies send our way.
At AsOne we recognise that in order to stand out and distinguish yourself from your competitors, you need to think creatively and find new ways to engage your audience. This can take many formats and with AsOne you have a trusted partner to ensure your marketing ideas are developed and executed properly.
Ideas are the currency of the 21st century
Every company has the same range of marketing tools available to them, but differentiation comes in the way that you use them. The right mix of tools in the right combination, with great design and copy will ensure that your message gets heard. Understanding what marketing tools will work for you comes from collaboration and understanding of your business goals.
But finding that right mix requires a depth of clever and innovative marketing ideas. Our creative team build a funnel of possible options and work collaboratively with the client to filter and refine them until we find the very best approach.
This is only possible if you take the time to step back and truly understand what the company does, and what their clients are looking for before crafting a marketing strategy. There is no “one size fits all” for marketing, you can’t successfully take a template and apply it to multiple companies.
For the greatest impact and highest return on investment, fresh thinking is required every time.
Are your clients active Facebook users? Maybe an innovative social media campaign or a competition would be best for you?
Are your clients searching for answers in Google? We can help connect them with what they are looking for through engaging content and paid search.
Has a potential customer interacted with your business before? Would remarketing rejuvenate them to take action?
Not everything works first time, and we take a strategic yet experimental approach to testing ideas until we settle on the perfect combination.
A creative approach and innovative marketing ideas are the basis of our success
Since we signed our very first customer, we’ve sought to do things a bit differently, taking the time to get to know the businesses that we work with and form long-lasting partnerships.
Our clients trust us to find creative solutions to their challenges, and we work with them to articulate their marketing objectives, and craft a strategy that we know will meet them. But we always strive to exceed expectations.
At it’s heart, AsOne is an ideas agency. We keep ahead of the latest developments in technology, take inspiration from the world around us and seek out the best people, to ensure that we find the best ideas for our clients. Our unique approach, coupled with a depth of expertise and creative ability allows us to market your business in a fresh and dynamic way, making you stand out from the crowd. Contact us today.
At AsOne we always strive to do our part for charity and help people from around the world who do not have the same start in life as we do. This year we decided to get involved with Red Nose Day on the 24th of March.
We didn’t however, want to just do something simple we wanted to make sure that all of our team members were involved and something which people would definitely want to donate for. That’s when we came up with AsOne’s Pie to the Face. We gave people the opportunity to see one of our team members have delicious pies thrown at them by other team members. We knew that many could not pass up the chance to see one of us get pied!
The rules were simple, people voted for who they wanted to see get a pie in the face by donating to our funding page. £1 was equivalent to 1 vote so the more people donated the more votes the chosen team member received.
After nearly 3 weeks of voting and raising an amazing £261, our eventual winner was Richard O’Brien! He took the serving of humble pie with a smile on his face!
We even had a guest pie thrower! Diane from The Rubbish Removers came along to our event to help us with throwing the pies. (We think she enjoyed it a bit too much!)
You may have read in the news recently the government is investing almost £2 billion into fighting cyber-crime due to a surge in fraud, website hacking and other online crimes. It has been reported that up to 30,000 websites are hacked per day worldwide. With cyber-crime on the rise it is more important than ever to make sure your website, data and customers are protected from hackers.
You service your car and update your phone; your website requires attention too. AsOne recommend regular maintenance to protect your digital business.
Why target WordPress?
With WordPress being the most popular Content Management System and powering over 25% of all websites it is a natural target for hackers due to its sheer popularity.
The core WordPress system is, in fact, a very secure platform and there are a number of “white hat” developers constantly looking for vulnerabilities in the system so they can be patched up. If a security loophole is discovered it is passed to the WordPress development team and will be fixed in a WordPress version release. This makes it vital to keep your WordPress platform up to date to ensure the latest security patches have been applied.
On occasion there can also be vulnerabilities in a WordPress theme or plugin that can allow hackers backdoor access into your website. Again these vulnerabilities will be patched in future version releases and should be kept up to date.
How do hackers gain access to my site?
There are various ways a hacker could try to gain access to your website such as a brute force attack where the hacker or a bot will attempt to guess your username and password thousands and thousands of times. Since around November 2016 there has been a spike in these types of attacks mainly from Russian/Ukraine IP addresses.
A brute force attack is an unsophisticated method of guessing your credentials up to millions of times a day, this can not only affect your website security but performance as every time a login is attempted it takes up resources to process the attempt.
If your WordPress site, themes or plugins are out of date they may contain vulnerabilities that allow hackers into your site.
What happens if my website is hacked?
Once a hacker has access to your site there are a number of nasty things they can do including:
Upload hundreds of malicious files to send out spam emails.
Gain access to your website data including mailing lists, payment details and more. They can choose to steal, edit or delete this data at will.
Add posts/pages onto your site that contain spam links, malicious code or redirects your users to another website.
Use your site as a platform to infect your visitor’s machines with malware, key trackers, ransomware, viruses or other malicious software in order to capture information they can use for their own gain
Add themselves as a WordPress user with full access and lock every other account out
If a search engine such as Google or Bing detects that your site contains malicious code, it may blacklist it and your site will contain the following warning to visitors:
How increasing your WordPress security can prevent this
While this will massively put users off visiting your site it can also affect your search engine rankings if the problem is not addressed quickly.
What can I do to prevent against attacks?
Common usernames and weak passwords make life easy for hackers attempting to guess your details. You should never use an obvious username such as “admin” or “user” as this will hugely increase your chances of being hacked as these are common usernames that hackers will look for. Furthermore, it goes without saying that using a weak password such as “Password” or “password123” will make it very easy for your website to be hacked.
What can AsOne offer to help protect my WordPress site
As part of our standard hosting package we take daily backups of your website and database for the last 10 days. We also install Wordfence the leading WordPress security plugin when each site is launched, however without keeping this and your other WordPress plugins and themes updated your site will not be fully protected.
We offer the following solutions for protecting and improving your WordPress security:
1. WordPress Lockdown (One off payment of £190 + VAT)
Updating your WordPress platform including the WordPress core, themes and plugins* to the latest available versions.
Change the default login path to a secure alternative.
Check for security vulnerabilities such as a username of “admin” or “user”.
Harden the standard Wordfence lockout protocols to ensure we make it as hard as possible for hackers to get into your site and lock them out of attempting to regain access to your site.
Lockdown FTP Access.
Disable some predefined WordPress options that can make it easier for a hacker to gain access to access your site
While this package will make your website more difficult to attack and will protect against the majority of vulnerabilities it is not a guarantee that your site will not be compromised in future.
All of our Innovation Club® members receive this WordPress Security protection as part of their membership.
Everything included in the WordPress Lockdown package
WordPress core, themes and select plugins updated monthly.
Free Priority clean, repair and restore if your website is attacked. (usual cost over £600+VAT)
Full protection against the latest vulnerabilities
Lockout IP addresses known to be used by hackers.
Alerts are sent to our developer team if a user is locked out of your site because they have attempted to login too many times, used an incorrect username or any other suspicious activity. We can then lockout this IP from trying to access your site again if necessary.
Automatic Wordfence updates
Real-Time threat defence
Deeper file/database scanning
Audit Existing Passwords
Daily scans of your website to check for malware
3. Wait and See
Hoping for the best can have a disastrous effect on your website and any business that relies on your internet presence. If you choose to wait and see if your site gets compromised, you run the risk of incurring website down time.
If a hack is detected your host may disable your site and will not enable it until the infection is cleared. This is done to protect other sites on the same server. Not only is your website not available but your search engine rank can drop quickly too.
Cleaning up an infected website starts from £600+VAT and the final cost depends on the type of hack that has occurred. If you fail to protect your site thereafter you are open to yet another compromise and yet another fee to fix your site.
For less than the cost of fixing your compromised site you can be protected for a whole year with AsOne’s WordPress Servicing & Protection Warranty.
We stress that WordPress security should be taken seriously. If your site is hacked, it will not only have a negative effect on your website itself but the trust with your audience will deteriorate and your search engine rankings may be affected.

After the success of the Digital Skills Festival and meeting some amazing young talent we held an assessment day at our offices on the 14th of March. The day gave us a chance to look for young Manchester talent to offer the opportunity of a work placement over the Summer with AsOne & our team.
We shortlisted a group of candidates who expressed keen interest within Digital industry who were interested in sectors such as marketing, copywriting, web design, graphic design and much more. They also showed enthusiasm with working with our company AsOne because of the diverse clients we work with. Giving them the opportunity to fully immerse themselves within many different areas of the digital industry.
This type of placement opportunity gives many university students invaluable experience which can help towards their course and getting a job once they have graduated. More Businesses can help do their part for the future generation by offering placements, work experience or apprenticeships.
If you have an interest in offering young students a chance to work for your company on a placement basis there are many ways you can do this. You don’t have to go to events such as the Digital Skills Festival in order to find talent. You can contact schools, colleges and universities directly to express your interest. They can then help you find the perfect candidate.
We encourage business to offer placements, work experience and apprenticeships to young adults because it brings a fresh perspective to your business. An extra pair of hands can help your productivity. The injection of new enthusiasm in your team will help to bring a new wave of excitement with the added benefit of a fresh mind and opinions.
If you would like to hold a day like ours where you bring in a group of young talent we recommend that you prepare for the day. We choose to give our candidates assessments which were relevant to the placement we would be looking to fill. This allows individual candidates to shine and show you their knowledge.
We work closely with the DCN to highlight the benefits of employing young and aspiring talent especially those looking towards an apprenticeship. It is our continued mission to find the best emerging Manchester talent, giving them the opportunity to reach their potential in the Digital industry.
It was inspiring to meet many enthusiastic students who are keen to begin working in their chosen sector. We are looking forward to working further with the young talent of Manchester.
The digital world provides flexibility and choice to a consumer market which has never been seen before; it provides answers, creates opportunities, and inspires individuals. As nearly 90% of UK adults access the internet on a regular basis, it presents an opportunity for businesses to reach beyond the confines of traditional marketing techniques, opening up an entirely new market of opportunity. However, as one company develops, then so do many others, requiring the skill of the digital marketer to ensure that their business maintains autonomy in a highly competitive market. Whilst the online environment allows an individual to interact with more brands, it simultaneously allows the individual to remove displeasing brands or businesses from their digital environments. The challenge for the digital marketer is to create an ambiance which initially inspires trust and interest within the first time visitor to a site before they remove it from their experience, and maintains loyalty with existing customers by providing a consistently good service.
Within the world of digital marketing the visitor initiates the contact with the business, but there must be effective digital marketing in order to convert a visitor into a potential customer. Digital marketing must therefore represent and reiterate the ideology of a brand in an attractive manner, emphasising the positive aspects of the brand. Building upon the current brand identity in an innovative manner, it draws upon previously established traditional marketing techniques to enhance a brand identity in the online sphere. Effective digital marketing creates a tailor made experience for the client, interacting to develop the brand more effectively. The most effective way in which to achieve inspiration with the client is to develop a clear marketing strategy, emphasising the ways in which digital marketing can help the client achieve their business goals. As each business is unique, it is imperative that each individual strategy is tailor made to provide the client with an accumulation of the digital marketer’s personal skills and experience which, when aligned with their own strategy, maximises the customer experience.
Digital marketing is about customers leaving your website satisfied by their experiences, leaving reassured that they have had good customer service, ultimately inspiring long term brand loyalty. However, in order for this to achieve maximum impact both client and digital marketer must maintain constant communication, working effectively as a team to achieve their mutual business goals.
Google Remarketing uses the AdWords platform and the Google Display Network to serve highly targeted ads to people who have already viewed pages on your website or in your app.
It is a really effective way of improving the ROI of your campaigns, by ensuring that you stay at the forefront of your audience’s minds even after they’ve left your site.
How does it work?
Remarketing is a highly effective method of re-engaging your website visitors, but it requires your content to be properly tagged, and your AdWords campaigns being appropriately synced to use these tags.
If this is not something you’re familiar with yourself, you can use a PPC agency like AsOne to manage it for you, start to finish.
The process works as follows:
Pages on your website are tagged using a snippet of code supplied by Google
Targeted adverts are created using Google AdWords, relevant to each of the tagged pages
People who view these pages are automatically sent a cookie file, which allows Google to track them
When these people navigate away from your site, they will see your targeted ads on other sites based on which tagged pages they have viewed. These pages can be strategically selected to ensure the right message is presented at the right time.
For instance, if you have a page on your site that is tagged as “cuddly toys”, you can create an ad that specifically relates to cuddly toys, and will only appear to people who have already viewed that page.
This is especially effective for products that have a slow sales cycle, where people are less likely to make an impulse purchase. They might have had a look at your service, and even though they liked it they decided they needed more time to think about it.
Remarketing enables you to send a subtle reminder of the product they were interested in to entice them back to your site.
Make Remarketing part of your online acquisition strategy
When used in conjunction with other marketing methods, such as social media, paid search, or SEO, remarketing is a really effective way to ensure that you capture your audience’s attention again and again.
As with any other digital marketing methods, access to data and analytics is really important. Google provides detailed reports outlining how many times your ads have been viewed and clicked, and we analyse this data to optimise your campaign and ensure you are getting the best results.
At AsOne we have expert knowledge of how these techniques can be used as part of a broader, integrated marketing campaign to help drive your business forward.
If you’re interested in finding out how remarketing could work for you, don’t hesitate to get in touch and one of our account managers will be able to talk you through your options.
Pay-Per-Click (PPC) advertising is a fast and effective method of driving traffic to your website.
If you are struggling to rank organically for your preferred search terms, paid search is an excellent way to push you to the top of the listings and get your website noticed. Alternatively, PPC on the Google Display Network will allow you to capture traffic from people viewing related content on other websites.
At first sight Google AdWords may appear simple, but if you don’t invest time uncovering suitable keywords to target, perfecting your ad copy and regularly assessing your performance, it could well be money wasted.
Working with an agency like AsOne is the best way to ensure you maximise the value of both your time and your marketing spend.
Using a PPC Agency
Over the past few years marketing agencies have evolved to offer a variety of PPC management services including keyword research, ad implementation and monthly status reports.
Sadly, not all agencies are created equal, and some won’t provide any better results that you could have achieved yourself.
When you trust someone with your money and brand reputation you not only want to save time, but you expect expert knowledge and superior results.
At AsOne we leverage our deep technical expertise to advise clients on the best keywords to target and how to optimise ad copy to ensure we achieve the great results required to drive their businesses forward. We take full control of the management of the PPC platforms to ensure that your investment is well taken care of. When choosing AsOne as your strategic partner you do not have to worry that your marketing spend is being wasted.
PPC in a Broader Digital Strategy
PPC is a core element in the digital marketing arsenal and it is really important to build a strategy that looks at how it fits with your other online and offline marketing efforts.
Maximising your marketing spend often requires a joined up approach, finding the most appropriate methods to target different keywords and different audiences, and being agile enough to adapt these methods over time. At AsOne, we think about things a little differently. We’re more than just a PPC agency, but a true partner that delivers results by working with you to build a broader digital marketing strategy.
This includes things like ensuring your messages are consistent across different marketing channels, looking at where you’re getting the best ROI, or more specific approaches like optimising your content for search engines.
We know that getting your digital marketing right can make or break your business, by enabling you to vastly increase the size of your target audience, and we’ve built up years of experience working with growing and established businesses to help them succeed.
If you’re looking for support and guidance to help your business grow, don’t hesitate to get in touch and one of our account managers will talk you through how AsOne can help. Contact us on 0161 368 9100 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.

Paid search is an excellent way to get your website noticed fast.
But getting it right can be a challenge, and there are lots of things to take into consideration, such as:
Which keywords will have the most impact?
How it fits with your organic search strategy?
Whether you will bid on your brand keywords?
With deep industry expertise, AsOne can act as your strategic advisor, helping to identify the best search terms to target to ensure that you get a meaningful ROI from your campaign. We will also be able to advise on whether paid search is the right option for you, or if your money would be better spent on remarketing across the Google Display Network.
Plan your keywords to Maximise your Budget
Whether you decide to use a PPC agency, or go it alone, you have to make sure that you approach paid search in a strategic way.
Many companies make the mistake of rushing into paid search and lose money by targeting the wrong keywords that deliver no benefit to their business.
If you are investing in SEO marketing, a good understanding of how you perform for various key search terms is vital as this will also impact the phrases that you decide to bid on.
Cannibalisation and Branded Terms
Your natural instinct might tell you not to bid on your brand keywords if you already rank well in the organic results. The concern is that by bidding on brand terms, you will cannibalise your organic search traffic.
Why pay for clicks that you would have received anyway?
But recent research from Bing shows that this is only partially true and in fact bidding specifically on brand terms can be both an excellent offensive and defensive strategy.
Occupying the top spot in the organic listing, as well as having a paid ad presence on the page resulted in the following outcomes:
A 31% increase in traffic overall
Far fewer clicks to competitors
According to the Bing’s analysis, retailers who used this approach received a staggering 91% of the clicks for their target keywords. And by occupying more space on the page, there is far less opportunity for your competitors to encroach.
The best way to decide whether bidding on branded terms is the right thing for your business is to simply do a small scale trial and analyse the results. AsOne can help you to implement a strategy like this, tailoring the approach for different search terms to maximise your investment and ultimately give you the edge over your competitors.Get in contact with us by calling 0161 368 9100 or email email@example.com
February proved to be a busy month for AsOne in terms of supporting the local community. Tracey Rush represented digital industries, alongside other companies and sectors in and around the borough, by attending Alder Community High School to help the students learn more about youth employment.
Tracey helped students prepare for employment by hosting mock interviews. Each student having completed a job application form would be interviewed to assimilate a real live opportunity, followed by a critique of how the interview went and what considerations could be given to improve an application. This allowed students to experience first hand what a real job application & interview would be like and helped them learn from the experience, taking valuable comments, advice and ideas away that might increase their success rate in the future.
The aim of this day was to build students confidence when considering applying for a job whether that be part time or full time. This was a skill which many students of Alder felt that they were lacking and made the prospect of going out and getting a job a more daunting task.
The contribution from director Tracey Rush and the other volunteers on the day has helped to build the confidence of those who participated and many hope to use the experience to aid them in finding jobs over the summer.
Tracey adds, “I have two boys of my own, 14 & 18, very different personalities and I am sure both would have found the day a challenge to say the least. The students of Alder Community High School did a fantastic job of keeping calm under the pressure. It is unrealistic to assume every individual, youth or not, is able to represent themselves to their best ability when put into such an environment. Having activities around careers and preparation for careers within schools will definitely better support youth employment by preparing young people and encouraging them to be more proactive in their approach for employment”.
AsOne will be looking forward to further helping support & educate the next generation in youth employment and the options that are open to them after education.
If you would like to learn more about how we are helping the younger generation then take a look at our latest visit to the Digital Skills Festival in Manchester.
The Digital Skills Festival landed in Manchester last week and AsOne Creative Digital Marketing were proud attendees of the event. The Digital Skills Festival, is an annual, four-day event that includes a skills conference; the largest digital careers fair in the UK and opportunities for young people in education to progress into a rewarding career in the digital industry.
The event organisers Manchester Digital outline the purpose of the event. “Manchester has an ambition to become a digital city and in order to achieve this we need a highly skilled digital workforce that is big enough to serve the needs of an ever-growing industry. We need a pipeline of talent that will leave school, college and university with industry standard, work ready, digital skillsets.”
AsOne has always taken a vested interest in the next wave of talent that will be entering the digital and creative industries as our success with apprentices has shown. With our attendance at the Digital Skills Festival we wanted the opportunity to showcase our unique value proposition and how we can further develop the careers of the next generation. AsOne believes that your environment is an extension of your skills and that through continual learning and development there is no limit to your potential. This is the style of creativity we delivered during the Digital Skills Festival to great result.
The highlight of the event for us was the passion, drive and dedication from the future generation of web masters and digital marketers. The sheer will of talent that was evident at the event highlights the growth potential within the industry. Also, AsOne understands that from a sustainability standpoint, business growth is dependant on the talent pool that will be entering the market. With this in mind, we have a vested interest to ensure the next generation of people who wish to enter the digital world as a career do so with the best equipment available.
Manchester, historically has always been a digital city. We have some of the finest universities in the country and we are a focal for students around the world. Manchester is home to the largest student population in Europe and with the talent that is within the city the digital sector will continue to grow.
After our time at the Digital Skills festival it has become abundantly clear that the strength of the digital sector in Manchester is in safe hands with the next generation of digital creatives. Here at AsOne we have a deep understanding that we play a role in this. We are here to guide and develop the next generation of talent to ensure our industry stays buoyant and strong. We have built a solid foundation on work ethic and the continual learning ensuring that when an apprentice or new member of staff joins they are given every opportunity to succeed.
If you would like to know more about the development opportunities here at AsOne, please email firstname.lastname@example.org with a CV, covering letter and examples of previous work.
Every teenager at the end of High School will face the daunting task of choosing whether to continue with education or to go into the working world. It is not an easy choice to be made with many teenagers not having first hand experience of what a working life would entail for them. Many pupils are not fully aware of the options that are presented to them at the end of high school. However with a full understanding of the avenues open to young people they can make an objective decision on the course of their life which can include further education, vocational training or entering the workforce.
AsOne will be attending Alder Community High School on the 8th of February to help young people comprehend what life can be like outside of full time education. The concept is to help them understand the options that are available to them when their time at high school ends.
The students of Alder Community High School will sit a mock interview with the Director of AsOne, Tracey Rush. This will allow students to experience first hand what they can expect from an interview in a practical setting. This will help with their personal development and confidence when preparing themselves for both workplace interviews and for those which may be a necessity for college and university. Having an understanding of what to take to an interview or the questions which may be asked can help to alleviate pressure that many face when undertaking an interview for the first time. The interview will reflect the real life expectations of employers, helping pupils to develop the life skills that they will need when applying for their chosen careers.
When a student is preparing to leave school, they are told of all the way that college would benefit them. However, they are not fully informed in the ways in which an apprenticeship could be the best foot forward for their chosen careers.
At AsOne we have a passion for facilitating youth development, guiding them through training to achieve a rewarding and successful career in the Creative and Digital industry.
The Children 4 Most website is now live. They are a chain of 3 nurseries based across Tameside. They aim to provide a high standard of quality care and specialist Early Years education to raise standards of compulsory education. They wanted a small business website design which reflected their care and devotion to children. This is done through having personalised pages featuring images of the staff which give parents an insight into their nurseries.
Children 4 Most is built on the WordPress platform and features a full page slider on their homepage. Their modern website helps to reflect that they’re nurseries are of high standard. This is shown through their gallery which features images of the environment which a parent will be placing their children in. This is a great feature for those who prefer visual aid as well as a description to know what a nursery will be like for their child.
The call to actions on their homepage is clear and concise. We know that many parents will be busy with their child so this helps them to navigate the website effectively allowing them to contact the nurseries without having to leave the homepage.
The blogging system allows them to keep parents and staff up to date easily with the latest news and events. This helps the nursery to keep connected in an engaging and effective way.
Enquiring about nursery dates for a child is made simple with their contact form. This features a clear layout and collects the required information from the parent. You are able to fill in start and end dates as well as the times which a parent will need for their child. The market characteristics define the products features and which aim to satisfying the customer’s requirements for that products or service. The Niche Marketing should also outline this ensuring that you have a captivated audience at all times.
